When you were a kid, did you go looking for your Christmas presents?

Obviously after you stopped believing in Santa.

Once I found out where my mom hid the presents, I always got a sneak leak of what I was getting.

She tried to change where she hid them, but I was quite wily.

My wife (no pics), though, said that she always knew where the presents were kept, but wouldn’t look at them because it would hurt her mom’s feelings.

Yes, and then my brother and I found the biggest surprise gift of all, my dads Playboy stash. That was a great Christmas.

Found the Easter candy in my mom's closet and realized it was a farce.

Yep, had an attic with 2 doors and there wasnt an easy way to get to the other side without crawling over insulation and joists and vents, it wasnt intended to be connected.

My parents put the presents behind one of the doors locked and never locked the other. I dont know how many times I thought i was falling through the ceiling going to check out my toys. Never got caught.

My brother and I would wait for our parent to go to sleep and then we would sneak downstairs and see what “Santa” had brought us. We would take it upstairs and play for a bit before putting it back. My parents couldn’t believe we would sleep in on Christmas but the two of us had been up all night playing with our new stuff.

Yep, Christmas 1983(the G.I. Joe year). My dad hid everything in the closet of the guest bedroom and I found it all. It was glorious. The next year I got about 30 stitches in my leg for climbing in and around said bedroom after a nasty fall on the corner of his work desk. Needless to say I learned my lesson after that, lol.

Then later when I went to live with my mom I found my SNES wrapped up. I wanted it so bad that when everyone went to work one day I xacto knife cut the tape on the wrapping paper and pulled the console, as well as my copy of Super Mario Bros out of their packaging and played it a little while. Carefully slid the console back in the box and re taped the wrapping paper with exact sized pieces of tape to hide my snooping. The trick part was the game. It was wrapped in a clear plastic wrapper which I replaced with some Saran wrap and I believe I had to use a little model glue to seal the plastic up to make it look believable.

It was so awesome getting it unwrapped Christmas morning and no one was the wiser.

Yes, I would find them and tear a small hole in the wrapping paper to try to see what it was and then spread the paper back. Success rate ran at about 50%

Yes, definitely and usually found some.

But somehow, I don’t remember ever finding the biggest/most impactful present for a given year.

I for sure peeled some wrapping paper back far enough to reveal what was in the box, then tapped it back.

My dad loved hunting so he was always gifting me guns when I was young, (10-14 years old or so), 30-30, Model 11 Remington 12 gauge on and on.

It was too hard to wait when that long box was under the tree.
