I'm starting to see why most of their home countries are shite holes

You can't sell anything expediently on FB marketplace if it's not below 30-40% of retail, unless it's a hot ticket item.
Craigslist was actually better. Higher rate of sales/message.
Latinos of the 1st gen variety don't read descriptions at all. I block on a wholesale level.

I’ve never sold items on Marketplace, but I often see messages like “if it’s still listed, it’s still available” and always assume those sellers are difficult, so I don’t bother making an offer. Over time, I’ve learned to only deal with people who have a 5-star rating

Selling lawn equipment, furniture, or appliances is a shite show on there.
I've had really good experiences selling hunting/fishing gear there. I squirrel hunt hunt with a guy I sold a stand to a few years ago. Different class of people buying high end hunting stuff.
Eta: the biggest PITA Ive sold was an old fourwheeler that would run but not take throttle. I had it listed for $200 and people were non stop offering subs, rims, pit bulls, etc for trade. I ended up trading it to an old mechanic feller for a rifle. You gotta wade through a ton of bullshite for some items.

Tried selling a PS5 a couple years back, never again

A friend of mine tried to sell a console a few years back, a guy messaged him around 10:30 at night wanting my friend to drive to his house to do the deal right then. When he said he would meet him at the police parking lot in the morning or sometime during the next day, the response was something along the lines of "racist motherfricker" and that was the end of the contact.

Had this multiple times

It was always silence after suggesting this
A previous poster saying that they have had good success with hunting/fishing equipment gives me hope since I will be looking for a high-end fishing Kayak soon.

I saw a barely used bonifide xt139 with an 20 hp outboard on it on marketplace yesterday. 13k.
For a kayak. Lol

People list this way is because one of the Facebook prompts the buyer can click on is “Is this still available”. And the seller ends up getting 50 of these questions for every one or two normal responses.

I’ve sold a few pieces of music gear and had good experiences each time, but I’ve heard horror stories about trying to sell lawn equipment and furniture.

I think I’ve sold everything I ever posted on marketplace in under a week. You gotta ignore the 3000 “is this still available messages?” And the lowballs. If they’re serious, they’ll circle back with an actual message.
Tractors, trucks, boats, furniture, trailers, lawnmowers, etc. I think it’s great.

Tried selling a fairly inexpensive car on FB Marketplace. Got a lot of people who’s FB pic was flashing cash, guns, and underwear. Yeah, like I’m going to deal with that. Sorry. Already sold.

Scamming is just a way of life in most 3rd world countries.

Most police stations have designated areas for business transactions to take place

Hot take, you shouldn’t be selling anything anything higher than 30-40% retail. Why would I buy something used from Jose when I can buy it new for 10% more, with a return policy, and a warranty?
ETA; I’ll take high end fishing reels as an example. The amount of reels for sale for $500-550 that retail for $600 is absurd. “Save 20% plus the cost of line”. Not worth it. I’ll buy it from you tomorrow for $350 (not kidding). You gotta make the risk and time worth it. Used shite ain’t worth anything close to brand new retail

I’m going to be selling a used ham after Christmas. This thread has been useful, laddies.
Thanks.
Thanks.

A lot of robberies.
My wife had some of my kids Playstations and games on there. Someone responded and wanted to meet her at the auto zone on the corner of North Foster and Choctaw. Thats a big NO GO

We market new items there, in general people are complete idiots. I will have people who see our ads for brand new items sold in our retail store and inquire asking if we will take random used household items as trade.
I generate a ton of sales from Marketplace, it’s more useful than other online channels that cost us thousands of dollars per month, it’s just very inefficient because you’re dealing with a medium that’s overrun with low IQ individuals and makes it easy for them to communicate with you.

I would just take the low ball from a gaming store or a 2nd and Charles instead of dealing with that.
