I want to like Ruger but my Marlin 1895 came with missing parts in the bolt, the pins that hold the firing pins in. They fell out the back of the rifle the first time I was at the range. Can get a Tikka for a few $ more.

Tikka is objectively a better firearm and isnt the wrong answer here. Of course the respondent could have simply said “No”

The trigger is spongy, the feeding mechanism is catchy, and the stock is flimsy. It’s fairly accurate for a cheap rifle though. I’ll be looking to get a higher end rifle next season. It’ll be fine for a backup or an extra when I have guests come to the camp.

I have one of the original American Predators in 308. I also have a T3 in 308. Ruger shoots better, but the Tikka is a far nicer rifle.

I wanted a 16” barrel 308. Went cheap and bought the ruger. Stock and barrel are nice but trigger sucks and the bolt was stiff and sticky. I tried to work the bolt and smooth it out for a week and gave up. Sold the ruger and bought the tikka roughtech ranch in 308. Twice the price but worth it. Roughtech stock is nice, trigger is a typical 3# crisp tikka trigger and fluted bolt is silky smooth. I reload and had a wanted to shoot 165gr bullets but it groups 150s better. I also have a can on it.

I’ve got the original Ruger American in 7mm-08. Shoots great. Well worth the $400 I gave for it new.

I'm torn between this and a Bergara B14 Ridge SP. I have a Ruger American rimfire and it shoots lights out but like others have said the stock is flimsy and makes the whole gun feel cheap.

He asked for a review, and this gun was made 100% to compete with the tikka lite. I have both, and the tikka is the better buy unless you just really, really want factory cerakote or have to have a 3 position safety.

Same, I have an original that I dropped an aftermarket trigger in. Works great for what I need it to do.

You can get a sauer 100 from eurooptic for under $500 right now. 6.5 cripplemore is $430.
Far better rifle and a no brainer at that price.
I don't own a ruger American gen 2 but I have shot one. Shot ok, definitely a price point rifle though

Few guys in my lease have them, they seem ok for the price. Stocks aren't very rigid and some occasional feed issues.

FWIW, I wanted a .308 and was between the Ruger Gen 2 and a Tikka Lite. I never shot either but held both.
I went with the Tikka on sale and with a rebate it was $550 out the door. Couldn't pass that up and love it. I've had it for about 1.5 yr now.

I know the Tikka's are good guns, just couldn't get over the "cheap" feel and look in hand.

I have a Ruger American predator in .308. 16 or 18 inch barrel (can't remember which).
When I got it I replaced the stock with the Magpul American. It's a much better stock and worth the investment. My gun has a decent trigger, it isn't a trigger tech but it's a good trigger that is adjustable and is sitting around 3.5lbs. Shot it a couple of weeks ago and with 165 reloads, it was easily under an inch at 100yds.
My has never been shot without the Q Thunder Chicken on it. I also replaced the bolt handle on it several years ago. The new one is a larger handle. I like it and wasn't too hard to replace with the little tool. I think I ordered both (tool and handle) from a place called Anarchy outdoors.

Its a really good gun for the price point. Sure there are nicer, smoother and fancier guns on the market but for a sub $700 gun you cant really complain and at the end of the day they are accurate and dependable which is what matters.

I looked at bergaras as well and it’s a damn fine rifle. Ultimately I went with the tikka bc it was a 16” vs 18” barrel, lighter IIRC and I’m a tikka fanboy.

That was my thinking as well. For the mods I had to do I was close to a tikka price but the bolt was still stiff. I reload and was tinkering with seating depths and the bolt on the ruger was way more finicky than the tikka.
