2005ish era?

Some counter points to things I know will be said…..season end more interesting cause more teams in the race…..

I don’t recall ever being bored with the college football season there was always something to play for. (In this universe we never had to experience the playoff so you have to think of it like that)
Good arguments fueling debate…….there were plenty of things to debate…should Boise play for a national championship? Will such a such make a BCS bowl? That was something a coach could have on the resume.

I know there will be times in this playoff where things are exciting in the final minutes and all that stuff. That will be fun. By the time we reach the national championship game people are almost over saturated and into the nfl playoffs unless your team is in it.

The best point for BCS. the only Bcs title game I attended was Bama and nd and so much of the fun was over the holidays just knowing your gonna be playing for the national title and that surreal feeling. And you haven’t seen the team play in a month so it really feels like a special event.

I can’t see why people would prefer Pre-BCS but I can certainly respect it as I would prefer that even over the playoff that isn’t even fairly done

4 team playoff was the sweet spot, imo.

the first 9 years of the 4 team playoff was perfection, and IMO, they got it right literally every single time. Don't get me started on the cluster that was the final year.

Almost without fail there will be more than 2 teams that have a legit, deserving case to say they have a shot to be national champion, which is why I was on board with things expanding. 12 is way too fricking many though. There will literally NEVER in history be 12 teams that deserve a chance to be #1. If we were absolutely dead set on expanding it should have been 6. 8 is still too many.

4 Team CFP is the best, but they should have used the BCS rankings instead of a committee.

I liked 4, and wouldn’t have minded expanding to 6-8.

There’s no reason the national title should be played damn near the Super Bowl. They’ve drawn out the season too much and killed the stakes

I don’t. The playoff sucks. Give me the old school BCS. It was way better.

The only year the committee was really different than the BCS standings would have been was 2023 when Florida State got hosed. But BCS standings in a 4 team playoff would work for me.

I personally think it would be perfect if it was 8 teams and they use BCS voting.

Well, they'll never go back to less games so I hope they stop at 12 and never ever have more than 16.

More important than the amount of teams to me is that we have a more transparent system and not some old committee that can manipulate things to their desire.

I'd prefer a 16 team playoff with no auto-qualifiers and using the BCS to select those teams.

I do like 12 team playoff more than BCS, though barely.

If we're going to exclude teams from the opportunity, 4 teams is too few IMO.

5th ranked team is often just as deserving as 1st or 2nd.

I think 16 teams would be great. 17 can kick rocks, that was much more likely decided on the field. Kick out autoqualifiers though.

And 8 home playoff games in college football would be sweet.

ETA:

BCS standings and first round games -

1 Ohio State
2 Indiana
3 Georgia
4 Oregon
5 Ole Miss
6 Texas Tech
7 Texas A&M
8 Oklahoma
9 Notre Dame
10 Alabama
11 BYU
12 Vanderbilt
13 Miami (FL)
14 Texas
15 Utah
16 USC

#16 USC @ #1 Ohio State
#15 Utah @ #2 Indiana
#14 Texas @ #3 Georgia
#13 Miami @ #4 Oregon
#12 Vanderbilt @ #5 Ole Miss
#11 BYU @ #6 Texas Tech
#10 Alabama @ #7 Texas A&M
#9 Notre Dame @ #8 Oklahoma

This would be ELECTRIC.

In the era with NIL and unlimited transfers the playoff is the only thing making relevant college football post season games. The BCS era was great because the players still cared about the big bowl games, in this era, they don’t/wouldn’t.

So yes, I prefer the playoffs because it gives us 11 relevant postseason games, even though 2 suck because of the shitty G5 inclusion.

I hate it.
Theres no glory in watching a team getting that loss that knocks them out of the championship game.
Id rather the bcs 2004 era.

Yes its way better, especially once they fix the scheduling and (hopefully) kill or fix the redundant conference championship games
