Netflix has gone into business with Dave Portnoy, with a deal that will bring the “unfiltered commentary” of Barstool Sports‘ podcast personalities to viewers worldwide.
Under its multiyear pact with Barstool, Netflix has exclusive rights to video versions of a trio of the digital media company’s popular podcasts: “Pardon My Take,” “The Ryen Russillo Podcast” and Spittin’ Chiclets.” . The video versions of the three Barstool sports shows will be available Netflix starting in early 2026. That means full video episodes of the podcasts will no longer be available on YouTube as of next year. Netflix will launch them initially in the U.S., to be followed by additional markets.
Netflix’s Barstool Sports deal covers all new episodes from the podcasts as well as select library episodes from each show. The audio versions of each podcast will continue to be available across major platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

It’s the latest move by Netflix to bulk up its podcast programming lineup. To date, the company has cut two other licensing deals to bring video podcasts to its subscribers — with Spotify, for shows including “The Bill Simmons Podcast” and “The Rewatchables”; and with iHeartMedia, for at least 15 podcasts including radio talk show “The Breakfast Club” co-hosted by Charlamange tha God.

This is what has killed sports media. It killed ESPN, and will continue to rot what it touches. One or two shows is fine, but when you have hours and hours of BS and arguing, it’s awful. I miss SportsCenter the way it was.

Why would someone sign up for Netflix to watch a podcast. The whole point of a podcast is to listen to it. Netflix is dumb

Pardon My Take is the #1 sports podcast in the U.S.

People listen to terrible things. Every sport is worse than it was from years ago.

A not-insignificant amount of people "watch" podcasts on YouTube or other platforms that have a visual element. How much "watching" people are doing versus just listening is anyone's guess, but it seems that Netflix is wanting to take that traffic away from YouTube and bring it to it's own platform. They already announced deals with The Ringer and iHeartMedia. Netflix is acutely aware that the average person spends significantly more time watching YouTube than they do Netflix and I guess this is a step towards trying to mitigate that. Whether it will work is anyone's guess.
I'm not sure how many "viewers" they will be able to bring over, at least at first. Clicking on YouTube and watching clips (or a podcast) is something that is second nature to most people at this point; Netflix not so much. I won't say that Netflix's interface is at all difficult to use, but it definitely would require at least a few more clicks than YouTube's would and for passive users the more clicks it takes = the less likely they are to use your app.

Big difference though, Pardon My Take gets the joke. Literally how they got their name.
ESPN still tries to do an element of “take us seriously”. There’s a reason the interviews are 10x better on PMT minus John Cena and Dak.
I’m honestly not sure how this makes sense for Netflix overall, outside of them getting consistent eyes on 3x a week content. It won’t really help subs that much.

Only thing I listen from Barstool is Spittin Chiclets...but you have to be a hockey fan to love it...but they are so good.

I don’t listen to podcasts but Kill Tony is a great watch on YouTube for me now a days. Took a little while to get used to but really entertaining. Some duds here and there but it’s also not finding 10 different ways to talk about the same subject or current big news story. I’ll watch a Rogan or Theo interview every now and then too but not sure how many folks are going to be tuning into watch these shows.
Netflix aired a few of Kill Tony’s and they were arguably the worst shows I’ve seen of the show. Over produced and watered down garbage. Could tell Tony and the show had some training wheels attached to them for the larger audience. Can definitely see that with the Barstool stuff going over.

Only thing I will miss is Max's rants after the Eagles or Phillies lose, and the clips will be on X. PMT is a machine, it's boring, it's sterile. They recycle the same guests, they talk about the same shite, and these guys are getting old. Good on them for cashing in.

They just launched a gaming system. I've been getting ads about it all day.
Def not staying in their lane at this point.

The greater majority of Barstool's sports personalities have no fricking clue what they are talking about, and it's so cringe to watch them do verbal backflips every time they open their mouths.

This is the entire premise of PMT. It is quite literally advertised as guys who have no idea what they are talking about talking about sports

I haven’t listened for like 3 years already, and I imagine it has to just be getting worse and worse.
I can’t stand the “look at me, I’m fat and stupid” humor. shite hasn’t been funny like ever

Biz Nasty is a legend. I don't follow hockey at all and I am a huge fan of his. I am in the process of binge watching him and Whit's Sandbagger videos.

I’ll throw on some podcast on the iPad while I’m around the house at night, it’s so convenient on YouTube but I have no interest in buying Netflix to do this. IMO this makes no sense to the common man.
