Both the Army and Navy incorrectly classified recruits who received low marks on military entry exams, a move that gave both services more underachieving enlistees than Congress allows, a watchdog agency said in a new report.

According to federal law, the number of applicants whose Armed Forces Qualification Test scores fell between the 10th and 30th percentiles can’t surpass 4% of the total enlistees in a given fiscal year. Such scores are designated as Category IV enlistments.

Permission to go beyond the limits can be granted by the secretary of defense, who must inform the congressional armed services committees within 30 days.
We are the law and order party the last time I checked.
Additionally we shouldn’t lower standards to meet recruiting numbers. Ever.

Congress has made no laws restricting the number of recruits any branch of service can take. Congress sets goals for them to try and reach but there is no law restricting the number.

It’s interesting because the stated reason this came about was the services used test scoring post-preparatory courses for these enlistees, rather than their pre-preparatory scores which they are required to.
Don’t love we have a bunch of dipshits running around, but the methodology with which this “gotcha” is coming about also seems flawed if the applicants improved upon their scores

Typically military recruitment goes up when the economy turns to shite. I expect to have record high recruitment by the time Trump really manages to frick things up even more than he has already.

You should read what you are broad casting. Deep in the article ?It identifies the review period as being from early 2024 to august 2025. More crap that the new administration is cleaning up.

Oh frick you.
This is exactly what the Ivy’s and other universities were doing to exact “racial justice”. Your side fought for this shite, faught for their public funding, and for student loan forgiveness.
The difference here is that otherwise qualified candidates are not being denied entry.

The Pentagon pushed back against the findings, saying the law does not prohibit the improved scores from being used, William Fitzhugh, acting assistant secretary of defense for manpower and reserve affairs, wrote in an undated rebuttal.
The Army and the Navy had been instructed to use the updated scores in memorandums in May 2024 and February 2025, the report said.
