Mine doesn’t. Not getting paid for 2.5 hours a week adds up to a lot of money over the year

Salary but expected hours are 8 1/2 hours a day. I usually end up anywhere from 7-10 depending on work load. Since expected hours are 8 1/2, that would account for an unpaid lunch.

They list my working hours as 8-5.
I work 8-4.

frick what they think. If they don’t enforce it, it doesn’t exist.

Not working an unpaid lunch hour, especially when people do schedule meetings during lunch hour.

I work 4-4 and get paid for all the time I’m here. In the flip side, I’m not allowed to leave for lunch.

I'm salaried, so yes. I also get taken out to lunch a lot by vendors, so I'll normally get at least one free lunch a week.

Why would you expect to get paid if you're an hourly worker when you're not, you know...working?

I get paid for billable face to face hours/treatment planning and that doesn't include lunch/breaks. But that allows me to schedule a decent break in the middle of the day to do what I please with and that typically includes lunch.

Why should they? What are you producing during those 2.5 hours a week?

Salaried at all, but current job considers lunch to be part of the standard eight hour work day. My job before this did not (so the work day was nine hours). My job before that was like this one, where lunch was considered part of the work day.

I've actually done a bit of research in the last year or two to sate my curiosity, and moving away from considering lunch to be part of the work day is fairly modern. Eight hour "shifts" were the norm until fairly recently, and you'll hear people referring to desk jobs euphemistically as "working a 9 to 5". "Giving" employees an hour for lunch but requiring them to work a nine hour day is one of the more oddly pernicious things I've noticed about the modern work paradigm.

But again, that's for salaried positions. Hourly is a different animal entirely.
