I feel confident in saying that the NFL has become so much more advanced since then, it wouldn't be possible to do this today, and it just shows how far the game has come.

What a shitty article. Was it beer? Hard Liquor? Beer drunk might have actually helped as it is a great way to get some quick carbs into the bloodstream.

Whiskey or vodka, woof. That stuff sucks to play on.

what? No. I guarantee there are a few players in all pro leagues that get away with it in this current day and age. All you have to do is throw some vodka into a Gatorade bottle. Gets ya loose and calms the nerves.

Maybe I am way too logical, but my biggest fear would be that being drunk/high/whatever while playing football would make me lose just enough awareness such that some large 300 pounder would absolutely clean my clock. Football is dangerous enough when sober.

It wasn’t THAT long ago

I see his team filing suit trying to recoup what they paid him though, arguing that he didn’t give his “best effort” and defrauded them

And he’ll argue it didn’t really happen

That hit doesn’t hit as hard when you have a few drinks in your system.

Booze would be terrible with any exercise. Weed, lots and lots of guys ball while high.

"I played completely shite faced drunk"

yeah that's bullshite. I'm not saying he not have drank before games, he probably did. But "shite faced"? I mean it's not like having a couple beers to take the edge off...if you're shitfaced everyboyd would know it. You simply can't be a fricking CB running step for step with the best WRs on earth while shitfaced. Or if he was, it'd have been obvious after like 2 plays.

One of my high school teammate was RB who ran for almost 1500 yards his junior year. He was piss drunk every game.

Not gonna lie if I was an NFL player I’d probably knock back a couple shots to ease the nerves before a big game.
