A coalition of advocacy groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Trump administration seeking the immediate release of the memo that provides the legal justification for U.S. military strikes on alleged drug boats.

The complaint, filed in federal court in Manhattan, argues that the deadly strikes, which have killed at least 87 people since early September, are illegal and that Americans deserve to see the justification for them.

The filing requests for the court to order the Justice, State and Defense Departments to immediately search for all records regarding the legal reasoning behind the U.S. military campaign against alleged drug boats, and to release them to the American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU, and other plaintiffs, including the New York Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rights.

“We think that the public deserves to know how our government is justifying the cold-blooded murder of civilians is lawful," Jeffrey Stein, attorney for the ACLU, said in an interview. "We think that the Trump administration needs to stop these illegal and immoral strikes immediately, and that the officials who have carried them out must be held accountable, not gifted a 'Get Out of Jail Free card.'"

Time to test this allegation of being transparent, I reckon.

I'm not sure that the letter that you and Rog drafted last night at the weekly Narco Boat Bros virtual Yahtzee support group is going to work Bunk, but I wish all of you good luck in your endeavors.

Odd it wasn't filed in Florida.

Sorry, request is denied. It’s a “national security” issue.

Gotta love double-super-secret legal reasoning. Must be a really great analysis.

I don't see why a transparent administration would push them to any litigation

Are there people that honestly believe the Navy is just out there blowing up and random boats without any intelligence showing they’re drug traffickers?

Regardless of whether or not you support the strikes you have to be a special kind of simple to think these aren’t legit drug runners.

Can these advocacy groups seek justification from all these judges that let violent criminals out hundreds of times?

Are yall seeing it all clearly now?

Theres a dark element to this country that wants drugs and criminals as part of our everyday lives.

If there is or is supposed to be a legal memo, then I support the release. I love Trump hitting these boats. I also love keeping government in check, so either he has the right or he doesn't. I don't know the answer.

You can always count on the ACLU to be on the wrong side of every issue.

I think that there are people in this country who either get it or they don't. If you are opposed to what he is doing with these boats then you just don't get it and there's really not much help for you.

No basis for claim.

The left/deepstate could always disclose their investment of our tax dollars on the other side of the fireworks show.

No need. It's clear why. It's clear by whom and who is being affected. Clear as day despite the never ending fog of legal actions by political players.
