Serious question, what is leading these folks to believe that they own the water in front of their house and around the dock? Is this some BS they get told at HOA circle jerks?

As dumb as their logic seems to us some idiot Louisiana politicians sided with these kind of people. Now you gotta be worried about getting trespassed off "public" waterways in South Louisiana.

I think people just can't comprehend that if they're floating they're not on your actual property. Same as flying drones, but idk if that has similar laws as waterways tbh.

They don't own any part of of the water or land underneath it.

On the TN river that fluctuates, there is a lake level that determines the line (on Pickwick Lake, I believe that is the 529 ft level).

Anything below that is property of the government. Above is the landowners. As to dock, the government allows landowners to build the docks but the government has to approve any structure prior to building.

It's only for those waterways that were not considered "navigable" in 1812. There are many private canals, etc. along with erosion which has lead to more waterways than existed at that time. I have some understanding on that side, although I do agree it's a bit wild. For instance, I know someone who's family has access to marsh land that is private and certainly navigable by boat off of main bayous. It was like their great-great-grandpa's cow pastures that are now basically all gone. Does that family just give up that land to the state because water now covers it? Outside of duck season, I've never seen them police people fishing on it.

This is understandable and agreeable. If the State created the erosion, which they did, then no a landowner shouldn't lose their land. Thank you for the explanation.

In my area (Venetian Isles) we "own" to the center of the canal, and the guys on the other side own that side. HOA rules determine how far your docks can go from shore. The waterways provide access to owners and guests all along the canals. I'm not aware of disputes in my area about who gets to float/fish. I've only heard of 'wake' disputes and disputes about how far a dock or boathouse can protrude into the waterway.

The lady who pulled the gun belongs in jail for a while.

If the races roles were reversed it would be on every local news and possibly national.
