Vice President JD Vance says the link between mass immigration and increased housing costs is “clear as day,” as rents across the United States continue to decline for the fourth consecutive month.

Newly released housing data show that in November, rents declined again as demand fell and vacancies reached a record high.

CNBC reports:

The national median rent for apartments fell 1% in November from October, and now stands at $1,367, according to Apartment List. It was the fourth consecutive month-over-month decline. Apartment rents are down 1.1% from November 2024 and have fallen 5.2% from their 2022 peak. [Emphasis added]

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner said it is not a coincidence that rents have dropped just as the Trump administration has drastically cut illegal immigration and slowed legal immigration levels.

Property taxes are controlled by the states and cities. The Fedgov can talk about it, but they have no control over it. DeSantis was on this morning talking about eliminating property taxes for your primary residence in Florida. It would be a huge win for the people.

Home prices are overvalued. Property taxes will go down once values decrease.

Basic supply and demand. Add 30MM people to the demand side without increasing the supply side and the natural impact will be increased prices.

Illegal Immigrants take a lot of services while providing little revenue.

They are definitely ballooning budgets.

Property taxes only go down as neighborhoods become blighted by infestations and people fleeing for safety

You don’t understand how these boards of equalization operate. It’s a one way ratchet upwards.

people that don't realize when you have an extra 10 million people in your country (some that are getting tax payer benefits) and they are tying up houses and driving up costs are retarded.

It's way more than 10 million people too. That's a lowball figure they give us.

The county figure what their budget is and backs into property tax increases needed to get there. It’s that simple.

And if the government is covering housing costs, then rents are being both organically and artificially driven upwards.

Someone forgot to tell builders in Baton Rouge. They are building another complex on Burbank as we speak. All these cookie cutter houses will be trash in 10 years.

Yay?

You know what else drives up house prices? Economic growth.

Ending H1-B would make an immediate impact to the middle class. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough political will to do it.
