I'll always remember getting flashed at for the first time at Spanish Town when I was a young baw
Hope they can get this figured out
quote:
Organizers of the Spanish Town Parade warned during a budget hearing Wednesday, Dec. 3, that they may have to move the parade out of Baton Rouge if the city-parish can no longer cover the cost provide security. According to Spanish Town President Robert King, the city-parish has paid for security for the parade for the past 45 years.
quote:
Parade leaders estimate they would need between $50,000 and $75,000 to cover security on their own. They say they don’t have the funding because the money raised each year goes directly to charities and nonprofits, which they say is central to the parade’s mission.
quote:
Parade organizers said potential solutions include contacting the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office or seeking assistance from the National Guard. Amid talks of the Guard potentially being deployed in Baton Rouge, they believe the size of the event could justify federal involvement once they arrive in the area.

The 2003 Spanish Town parade weekend “Fun” section of the Advocate used a picture of a rider with a flamingo hat on for the cover. But the editors didn’t notice the flamingo had a giant cock and balls.

RIP Downtown Christmas Parade
How do the other Mardi Gras parades pay for security?
How does the St. Patrick's Parade pay for security?
Live after 5 is likely done as well

Blame City of St. George.
This entire movement is a cluster frick. Instead of my tax money funding essential services throughout East Baton Rouge Parish to fund security, police protection, court system, District Attorney, roads, and essential services to have a parade, it is now going to this cluster frick that has confiscated our property and has made it part of their mandatory H.O.A. and has no clue what they are doing.
We can say good bye to all of Downtown Baton Rouge Events and St. Patrick's Parade too. We now all live in our separate little Nazi Villages in East Baton Rouge Parish, instead of being one happy parish. Sieg Heil.
This Crap started with City of Central.

Why was the unincorporated area of St George completely propping up the City of Baton Rouge?

The number of things wrong with this statement is countless. But please continue your butthurt.

It's hard to blame them for doing what they did, the situation was bad and getting worse. They were funding a corrupt government and things they saw no benefit from. This is the opinion of someone who didn't want it to happen and has family in the Garden District and Southdowns.
I'd have preferred we keep some level-headed people in the Mayor's seat after Kip but that didn't happen. I think that could've prevented the whole thing, at least for a while.

Just move the parade over to St. George .

Well, then stop donating to charity and use the funds for security or shut down the parade.
Of course, if they are paying for the security it'll prob suck.

This is City of BR looking for a cash grab.
EBR Sheriff department will handle this.
If not, how much is the fine for having a parade without a permit?
ETA:
frickem', roll that parade.

Don’t kid yourself, Kip would have done something similar to Broom, but not as poorly executed. Broom surrounded herself with dislikeable people which hurt whatever she wanted.
St George was never part of the City of a Baton Rouge, never used any city services and once became their own city is still part of East Baton Rouge Parish.
THRIVE may have been poorly advertised and explained, but it was necessary and the least expensive option to fix what Broom left.
Without additional funding the City of Baton Rouge is in trouble.
The voters spoke at the polls and that should be respected, but a new plan needs to be developed quickly

Liquidate, reorganize, fire the metro council.

fire the metro council.
It will only be replaced with the same type people that BR residents vote in.
The votes on that council will still be the same racially divided block votes they've been for years.
