not necessarily...but "ugly" doesn't come to mind when looking at that house.

And Cous Cous, in most new home developments, you don't get a lot of land...the developer is trying to cram as many homes as he can in the subdivision.

Land is overrated if you have a nice park nearby...

See, e.g., Highland Park, Texas and University Park, Texas.

YA, I wouldn't mind a small lot if I were some big0city lawyer living on St. Charles Avenue. But if I'm in bumfrick Texas in a cookie-cutter house I'd at least like to be able to plant a decent sized garden and let the kids play football.

Agreed, the house I found in Katy has way more yard than I want.

Housing prices inside the loop in Houston are no where near dirt cheap.

Housing is cheap in Houston in the places that make people hate Houston, the crappy strip mall and congested traffic burbs. I went to Humble the other day to see my accountant and I'd be damned if I would ever live out there. Or Katy, I would shoot people on the freeway if I had to make that drive daily into and from downtown. Out of off 290, same shite.

spot on.

I lived in Houston for 15 yrs and I continually kept moving closer and closer in. Houston is a great town if you live in one of those inner areas like The Heights, West U, Garden Oaks, etc.

btw, I mentioned I was putting my Garden Oaks home on the market. Here's the link.

Garden Oaks

I am being stingy on the price, but it is actually in line with sales in Garden Oaks the last 2-6 months. That is a very small neighborhood and there are always more people looking to get in than out. And we're in the best location within Garden Oaks.

I'll let MT know how it goes. Went on the market Monday and we are up to 6 showings already.

This is pretty much exactly the case in Dallas as well.

Plus it looks like you could reach out your bathroom window and touch the walls of the next house over. I mean, if you're going to buy a house that big, don't you also want a lot?

That's like every development in Dallas. I expect enough yard to let the kids and dogs play.

They are compared to most cities the size of Houston.

ETA: and I'm not looking forward to moving to the burbs, but with a kid on the way I have to.

I doubt that seriously. Maybe on the weekends, but not during the week at normal drive times.

Then you would actually have to move to Houston though.

But yeah housing in Houston is dirt cheap, even with the ugly three tone brick/stone.

True...but it always has been. Our homes have always slowly risen in value. We didn't have the big housing spike around here really so we haven't seen the really bad foreclosure mess here. I think we are holding okay on values of homes here. I think (I am no expert of course) that is part of the reason our economy here is not as bad off as some.
