I love Baker and I'm thrilled he's staying.

It seems his achilles heel is stopping a mobile QB. In his two years with LSU he has struggled to stopped a mobile QB.

A&M '24 - 74 QB Rush Yds
Bama '24 - 190 QB Rush Yds
Ole Miss '25 - 71 QB Rush Yds
Vandy '25 - 97 Rush Yds
A&M '25 - 110 Rush Yds

What's your thoughts moving into the Kiffin era? Is it a scheme/design flaw? Is it a personnel issue? Freshman year Perk seemed to be the cheat code to stop a mobile QB, but he disappeared.

Curious to see the boards opinion on this. The '26 schedule will have several QBs that are capable runners (Reed, Manning, potentially Chambliss, potentially Ashton Daniels, etc.).

You gotta 10.3 high 4 star true freshmen LB chillin on the bench In Charles Ross he must see the field more next year. He made the same mistake last year with Xavier Atkins who has been balling for Auburn . I love baker but when you got kids that can fly sideline to sideline why not put them on the field and them spy !

having a functioning offense would help Baker's aggressive defense out a lot

for some reason you left off some. Let me help you out:

Vandy 2024 - 43 yards
Arkansas 2024 - -10 yards
Florida 2025 - 19 yards
South Carolina 2025 - 19 yards
Oklahoma 2025 - 27 yards

a good running QB is incredibly difficult to scheme against. I'd say having the 15th ranked scoring defense in the country means Baker is doing just fine.

Pavia was hurt last year during that game.
Floridas qb isnt really mobile. Oklahoma’s guy has been banged up and while somewhat mobile, isnt that athletic.

The most impressive jobs his defense did was against south carolina and last year vs arkansas

Common denominator missing from all of those is Perkins and Whit on the field at the same time...that was 80% of the issue. They work well together. Separately, not so much. Specifically Perkins, as he excels at Star when he has a dominant MLB. When Perkins was out, the LB group on the field athletically didnt have the ability to cover AND spy.

Do you not consider Mateer to be a mobile QB?

Its not that simple.

A running QB wears down a defense over the course of a game. Sloan and the offenses inability to even resemble a pulse was the perfect storm when coupled with injuries at LBer and D-line depth.

More to your point, Baker did indeed improve defending against mobile QBs over the course of the season. Case in Ark and OU game. Arkansas and Taylen Green were up on us 14-0 and had all the momentum. We basically shut them and Green down the rest of the way. OU and Mateer on the road in a cold weather windy game and Mateer running was a non-factor in a game where our offense was downright criminal.

Couple all of that with the fact in 2 yrs he has consistently shown improvement taking the worst defense in P5 to one of the best and doing that under a checked out Kelly and I feel he is vastly underrated.
