He ain’t leaving this. Continue the success with Kiffin and he’ll have his pick of top P4 HC openings soon enough

If he wants to be a HC then taking the Tulane job is a no brainer and I wish him the best. Would love to keep him another year but let’s be realistic here.

The last two Tulane coaches are P4 head coaches. Been a good jumping off point

I’m hoping he sticks around.

But IF he’s offered the Tulane job, he’d be silly not to take it. He’s stated he wants to be a HC at some point. It’s where he played. His wife is from the NOLA area. The expectations won’t be off the charts. Maybe he sees things differently, but it would seem to be a no-brainer.

The coordinator at major program to coach of smaller program is still the best and most common path.

Other than that, you're looking at what? Kirby, Lanning, and Day (who shouldn't count as he was an in-house promotion)?

Kirby and Lanning are kind of special use cases, too, as they spent a lot of time under elite coaches (one being Kirby for Lanning). A guy like Baker has no comparable history.

The path to a good HC coaching job leans much more towards being Tulane's HC vs being an assistant under Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin's tree has been incestual a lot like Sean Payton's was. Not really a ton of upward movement, good or bad.

Come on now. I understand you want to keep Baker and most of us do... but dont be delusional.

If Tulane offers him the job, all Baker has to do is sustain whats going on at Tulane and he'll be a P4 HC in probably 2 years.

I feel like many people don’t realize Blake Baler was a former player at Tulane. Being the HC at your former school is a pretty cool opportunity.

And were both head coaches prior to being hired at Tulane.

Selfishly I want him to stay. He's a Tulane grad so there will be that pull.

Professionally, I don't know that he has accomplished enough yet at LSU as DC to be given consideration for a P4 job, so if that his personal career goal, dropping down to a G5, his alma mater at that, is probably the right the thing to do.

ad's kinda soured on hiring coordinators it seems. he will probably need to be a hc. hopefully we can hold on to him another year, but he's not long for LSU i think.
