Feeling sentimental this holiday season.

Is it true that every man has one that got away?

I’ll start.

Mine was smart, pretty, and had a good career. I helped her a lot with the career part, but she definitely had it together. She was good to my friends and family. She planned a lot of things for us. She was pretty solid.

I could have appreciated her more, but I let my own vices get in the way.

She had her faults that I don’t miss, though.

In the end, we didn’t have the same values. Caused a lot of issues, and she left.

I’m less stressed without her, but I think about her every now and then. I hope she’s doing okay.

I had 4 units on the under 31 first half in the egg bowl yesterday. 10 points were scored in the last 90 seconds to push

I dated a carrot top redhead in high school whose family owned a tractor business. I wonder what that life would have been like.

I felt that way for a couple months. Then I moved on and started dating a new chick.

Who was the Arkansas poster who admitted he "forced" himself inside a girl? He made sure she didn't get away.

Married now for 38 years so this is a moot point now really but it’s an interesting topic to talk about.

Had two that “got away”. These were during undergraduate college era and grad school. So realistically, the timing was never gonna work because I had to get a job and all that stuff. Still think about them occasionally and what could’ve been. I guess it was a big part of your life and it’s hard to ever forget. There were scenarios where I guess we would’ve gotten married. Moot point now.

The first one in undergrad..We dated for over 3 years. After graduation, I had to move back to Florida and she moved back to Colorado. Just kind of fizzled after the summer for reasons I never knew. She later moved to France that year to study abroad. I was working a job before going back to grad school, then took a week off to go kayaking down the Suwannee for a week. On the banks, I got the bright idea I would go over there and win her back. So, I quit my job. Called her up and said "I'd be in Europe and would you want to meet up" (yeah right). So, having never been to Europe before, I was able to finally meet up in Paris with her and we traveled for a week, then she went back to school. I ended up backpacking there on my own for 3 months before going back to grad school. Didn't end up "winning the girl" back but learned a lot about myself and it was an experience I'll never forget. Did see her about 25 years ago and the spark was still there, but I was married and that was that.

The second was one I dated for 2 years in grad school. Really liked her and not sure why that ended and never saw her again. I do have an amazing story, however. We were on a cruise in Europe a few years ago and I heard a group of people mentioning a city I grew up in in Florida. I went up and talked to them and got to know them. Turns out two of the women in the group were in the same sorority as the girl I I dated in grad school for close to two years. AND… they were both in her wedding. This is the middle of France. Never knew him beforehand.

And this is an interesting thread and kind of cathartic.

Was a beauty.
Perfect 10
Was always playing hard to get and teasing me

I chased for month, but the neighbor ended up shooting it. Would have been the biggest buck I’ve ever shot.

I was fly fishing on a river that required barbless hooks. Hooked a huge trout. Bastard jumped off right before I netted him/her.

Mine is a dodged the bullet story.

When I was 30 I met and dated a 19yr old for about a year. She was 6ft 1 and just the right kind of thick.

There was a time I considered marrying that girl.

20yrs later, she is married with two kids which is great for her. She is also about 500 lbs. Yikes!

Ah, the one who got away. We all have them. For me it was a Portuguese woman, a yoga instructor, and university philosophy professor, - I met her at a dog rescue she founded and she invited me for a whiskey neat and then sponsored our world travel from her trust fund money. She’d quote Jung, scream “ do me Papi” during sex which she demanded theee times a day, and she never ever got mad at me for leaving dishes in the sink or leaving my socks on the floor . She also had a contract with the Hershey corporation to make tiny little Hershey’kisses, which she precisely pooped on demand. She was quite a gal. Alas, she left me for one of those guys who has a job.

Guys/Gals always think this about a former short term relationship.
It's called limerence, which ends when the honeymoon phase ends.
People can seem perfect in the short term, but in the long term you find out they're human just like everyone else.
