Tell me about the one that got away

Posted by Tiguh12 on 11/29/25 at 9:21 am
Feeling sentimental this holiday season.

Is it true that every man has one that got away?

I’ll start.

Mine was smart, pretty, and had a good career. I helped her a lot with the career part, but she definitely had it together. She was good to my friends and family. She planned a lot of things for us. She was pretty solid.

I could have appreciated her more, but I let my own vices get in the way.

She had her faults that I don’t miss, though.

In the end, we didn’t have the same values. Caused a lot of issues, and she left.

I’m less stressed without her, but I think about her every now and then. I hope she’s doing okay.
8/10 trashy.

Divorce is tough, and unfortunately people think it’s one sided - like it MUST be the other person’s fault.

Reality is it takes two to tango. After experiencing it myself, I know I had my faults and so did my ex.

At the end of the day, I didn’t trash my ex. I actually ceased all social media and worked on getting myself right. Heck - I even took full responsibility to get an annulment since I knew my ex wouldn’t want to be involved.

My ex, on the other hand, liked to tell people I cheated when on dates. I figure it was playing a sympathy card since I didn’t cheat (actually found out my ex was, so maybe projection?) I did other things I’m not necessarily proud of, but cheating wasn’t one of them.

Either way, people will always try to be the hero or victim in their own story unless they’re willing to take responsibility for their actions and situations.

My ex was a loser for trash talking me with no basis and in an attempt to play victim, but hopefully has grown up since.

re: Cigar smoking…why?

Honest answer here.

I’ve never smoked a cigarette, I think they smell awful, and I’ve refused to smoke one after having family members die from the side effects throughout my life.

I have smoked cigars (like one a year). I can confirm they taste different than they smell once lit. I don’t know the science behind it, but I’m sure there’s a reason.

I would recommend smelling one prior to smoking it. I am also not an expert, but I don’t inhale. I taste the smoke flavor and then blow it out.

I also 100% think I look cool when smoking my one cigar a year at the camp on the lake with a glass of bourbon because I’m basic like that, and because it reminds me of my grandfather.

Hope this is a little helpful.
Great for you. I left the church for 7 years and, after a divorce, went back.

Turned out religion was and still is a core value for me, but it wasn’t for my ex-SO. Led to a bunch of other issues when core values don’t align. I hope my ex-SO is doing great, but not my place to help. Luckily didn’t have kids, so no reason for me to know.

I’m now happily married to someone who has the same core values as me, and God is back front and center.

Happy for you, and I second looking into ACTS retreat or even silent retreats at Jesuit retreat houses (which are around the country).

This is exactly what we need, grooming at gunpoint

I don’t understand this statement.
quote:

Better than these poppin your nuts

Happened enough times that I used some pliers to really clamp them down.

They’re not going anywhere these days, and my nuts are safe… for now.

ETA: but, for real, way classier and a good solution.
quote:

Amazing you can find one to sleep with you.

Joke’s on you. I can’t.

The misogyny on here is pathetic.

It is. Posting/lurking here is probably a red flag women should consider.

ETA misspelling
quote:

The “gun free zone” doesn’t apply to your vehicle.

Thanks for this. I’m smarter now because I was dumb for not knowing this.

This is good advice. Thanks.
Thanks man. This is mostly what I was wondering about.

I hate that I am interested because this should not be a thing.

Found them. This is so sad, but they have kid ones.

Let me share an example

It seems that based on current law in Louisiana that if I was legally carrying a firearm near a school - outside of 1000 feet.

I hear gunshots and run over to investigate because my kid is in that school.

Not to say I would be that brave, but I can hope.

With the law as is if I kill or injure the shooter, I could be charged for having a firearm in a school zone.
This would also mean the male coaches could carry.

It’s really more of a legal question of a firearm free zone and if Louisiana is considering allowing firearms on campuses by licensed individuals.
With some .22s, sure thing buddy.

But, oddly, I thought this group would be okay with arming teachers and staff.

So many other states do it, I figured Louisiana would.

Realistically, few teachers would do it. Only the ones who were confident enough and got permission from their husbands would, right?
Women are pretty protective and level headed when it comes to kids in danger… not for much else, but I give them that.

Mama bear and all that kinda stuff.

Bunch of Louisiana women and probably around rural areas everywhere would be better marksmen than I am, so I give them that benefit.
Eh. Maybe it’s because the teachers around me aren’t teaching the “woke” curriculum.
Delete if already asked.

Any chance Louisiana is considering allowing teachers to carry?

It doesn’t seem they do now, though curious if there’s a lobbying group on this. I’m struggling to find info online other than ink below from a concealed carry group.

Watching the security footage of the Nashville situation definitely made me think, “Man - if only the staff could carry, then maybe…”

ETA: 32 states allow firearms on campus and for teachers to carry. Louisiana is not one of them.

Commercial at the moment.

For residential - I’m keen to just hire a one man carpenter or something at this point for small renovations. I’ve had great experience with generational carpenters who show incredible pride in their work.

They cost more, yes, but for quality, it’s worth it.
It’s more of the “just let the client know” part.

Cancelling is reasonable and expected. No communication about it seems unreasonable and a bit rude.

The clean part - I mean just not disgusting like having piss bottles behind drywall to eventually be sealed. That’s gross.
And now the ethical people actually existing and not being in the industry makes sense.

I would leave, too, if I had to continue reporting stolen equipment.
