IMO: Dillingham is Jay Johnson. Kiffin is Tony Vitello

Just an observation. I think Dilly is the better hire longterm.

I mean Vitello would have been amazing here also. He is just a bit (or giant) of a douche

Why?

He’s the new PJ Fleck/Tom Herman/Lincoln Riley.

Has a year or two that are good. Name gets hot and all the people crown the next Nick Saban.

Pretty accurate comparison. Who knows what the future holds but I can say if Kiffin fields shitty defenses like he's prone to do, it will be a short honeymoon.

Dilly is much younger and has had success at a Power 4 program with basically no NIL support. Plus he seems much more loyal than Kiffin. Dilly is clearly more of a risk than hiring Kiffin, but if any top SEC program gets him, they will be a threat.

Kiffin is in a league of his own as far as drama is concerned.

Vitello would have been loved here. He already plays into LSU fans mindset of everyone’s out to get us. This made him that much more intolerable at another school.

I’ll put it out there and agree with you. I too think Dilly would be a better long term hire. The drama queen thing is getting kinda old. I’ll be happy either way though.

Vitello has made the CWS 6 of the 7 years they have had it (Covid cancelled 1 during his tenure) since he was at Tennessee (missed his first season). He won one Natty.

If Kiffin makes the playoffs every year he is here except year 1 and wins 1 natty, will rational people want to run him off?

Of course, that is if we take your premise as being correct, which I do not.

Jay Johnson won his conference at multiple stops before LSU and went to the CWS twice and was the runner-up in one of those. Dillingham's resume is nowhere near that, at least not yet.

In today's college football landscape, Dilly's resume will never be as good at ASU as Johnson's was at Arizona. He will be hired for a premium job long before he has the chance to win as much as Jay did pre-LSU.

Also, if Kiffin wins 1 natty in 8 years then goes to the NFL, most LSU fans will considered that a loss (with how much we would be paying him).

Dilly had one year where he came out on top of one of the worst Big 12 seasons we've seen. Only 8 of 16 teams made a bowl game last year.

Outside of that, he's been unimpressive.

Prove me wrong.
