Once a long time ago while fishing the spillway, I trolled around a little point and in the cut was a boat. In the boat was a guy giving it to what I assumed was his wife or GF.

Neither seemed to care that I was there. But the fish weren't biting so I left.

A couple years ago while fishing on the Mississippi River in Lower St. Bernard Parish the wife and I had crossed the levee and made our way about 100 yds. across the batture to the river's edge to set up.

About 20 minutes later I spied something about 20 ft. out in the river that was moving upstream against the flow and it was about a 10 ft. gator. My wife was really wanting to leave right then and there but I assured her we were OK, and we were.

That was the first ever gator I saw in the river in all the years I've fished it and it wasn't the last time since I saw it a few more times that year.

Dad caught an owl on a top water plug one day. It was calm while he reeled it in and unhooked it.

A buddy and I were night fishing on the Suwannee River many years ago, when I was about 20 years old, and as was our wont we would fish from the Suwannee Gables to Fanning and turn around and fish back of an evening. We would fish up the spring just enough to catch a little natural AC before heading back up the river. This It wasn't unusual at all for us to "catch" folks swimming at the spring late at night...this was before it was a state park or at least before it closed at night...it was more or less open all day and night back then. Anyway we always joked about catching skinny dippers and would shine a light toward the dock every time...and get cussed soundly for being assholes which we were certainly being LOL. We did catch a bunch of teen aged girls skinny dipping one night...which was more embarrassing for us than them as they commenced to calling us over and accusing us of being scared, gay, all manner of ill shite because we hightailed it out of there...but the last thing we needed was getting arrested for being in the presence of a bunch of drunk, naked teen agers.

Fast forward about 5 or so years and I meet my future wife. She tells me she grew up in the area and I asked her if she ever went to Fanning. As it turned out she had spent almost every day during summer vacation for 12 years swimming at Fanning. She then proceeds to tell me about the time her and a bunch of friends were swimming naked one night when someone shined a spot light on them from a boat. The timing wasn't right for it to have been me and my buddy but she and I have laughed about it over the years. Apparently it was pretty common LOL...she says it happened to them pretty regularly and her brother, who also grew up at Fanning, has said it happened to him also.

I've had birds eat my fish in saltwater. Once in the surf on Perdido Key on a little whiting, one of those tall white birds, and another on Shem Creek by a pelican, not sure what fish species I was reeling in. I never got to find out.

My brother and I was running Yo-Yo’s years ago, & We had one of those big arse white cranes hook his foot on one of the Yo-Yo hooks.

That SOB like to beat us to death before we could get there to help him. This was before everyone had cell phones- but that video of our rescue would have been hilarious.

Wade fishing at Breton Island. A little more than waist deep and on the first cast I hooked a really nice trout, probably the biggest of my life. Put that sucker on a stringer. My buddy proceeds to catch another nice one. While he's about to land it I get violently jerked hard to the right. Huge fricking turmoil all around me. Saw the culprit, about a five foot bull shark. I ran on top of the water to shore. Only thing on the stringer was about half of the trout head. My friend lost his shite and threw his rod in the water with his fish attached. We fished out of a boat the rest of the trip.

Years ago we were on a scout fishing trip. My son and I were fishing up one side of a creek and crossed over and fished the side with all the piers. We came up on a pier that had a big hot tub and a woman talking on a phone. My son was fishing and really not paying attention. As I was sculling the boat I noticed that the woman stood up and as we got closer I noticed she did not have any clothes on! Trust me it was something I wish I could unsee! Funning thing my son never noticed due to his fishing! I told the dad who was hosting the trip and he forgot to warn us not to go that far up the creek.! She was some sort of exhibitionist and well known for it!

Caught a seagull in Fourchon. Had my kids in the boat and remember how to rock a chicken to sleep by putting its head under its wing. Performed same act on said seagull and put him to sleep. He slept on the deck of my boat for about 30 sec then woke up, looked around like WTF just happened and flew off. I thought I had killed it Kids were impressed so I looked like the cool dad.

Had a big arse owl swoop down and pick up my chug bug one time. Luckily somehow it managed to not get caught on any of the treble hooks and I was able to rip it free of its grip.

Also had some other large bird of prey do the same thing a different time but I ripped the bait away before it could grab it. It was an early, foggy morning and couldn’t identify what type of bird but it was large hawk sized.

One time reeling in 15in trout and all of a sudden the line went slack and and trout was coming towards me. All at once a boil and a porpoise proceeds to smash the trout and then dumps about 50yds of line in a matter of seconds and then lets the trout go.
When I got the trout in it looked like a wire wheel had got ahold of it!!

Caught some seagulls while fishing the birds.

I caught an owl on a jitterbug as a kid. It was anything but calm while I reeled it in. It flew and fell back in the water a few times. It then bit a finger off of my uncles welding glove. Thank goodness his finger wasn’t in it. The owl was pissed. Great memory of fishing with Uncle Don though.

About 3 weeks ago in Dulac, was fishing trout. My buddies reeling in a white trout and Blue Heron tries to take the fish off his line. He didn't succeed and swam back to the bank. 5 minutes later the same bird tries it again, and didn't succeed. He must have been really hungry.

Was fishing trout in company in Lockport a few years ago when they that bad drought and all the saltwater was moving way inland, it was the day after Christmas. Had Pelicans swim up to the boat and get in the boat with us. They were also trying to take our fish off the line.

I had a surprise thunderstorm while trying to go from the north end of Lake Verrett to the south end in a 15’ flat bottom boat. Got hairy.

Also went fish the tank pond at Catouatchie a week after Van Dam broke the Classic record there. Bounced a crank bait off a stump and hooked into a 12lb bass. By the time I got it to the boat it was a bigass catfish. I was quite disappointed.

My dad and I went deep sea fishing in the Gulf out of Pensacola a lot for quite a few years when I was a young boy and teenager.

One trip when I was about 15 years old, we were about 100 miles offshore. We had caught a bunch of red snapper, amberjack, grouper and trigger fish on a charter boat with guys my dad worked with. The sun was setting and the deck hands cleaned and cooked some of the fish we caught. I was the first one served and the first one who finished. We were going to sleep on the boat and fish again the next day.

It was starting to get dark and the captain had turned on powerful flood lights into the water all around the boat. The ocean was very calm and clear. About 10 minutes later, I walked over to the back of the boat and looked over into the water. I saw an enormous bait ball of cigar minnows streaking around, probably 100s of thousands of them for as far as I could see. Then there were probably thousands of maybe foot long squid streaking around eating the cigar minnows. It was simply an incredible sight to see. Even better there were hundreds of long silver streaks probably 2' to 3' long on average that were eating the squid and cigar minnows. It was an amazing situation to experience right on top of in clear water.

I reached over and grabbed a rod and put a cigar minnow on the hook, and just lowered the bait about 10' into the water. No one else on the boat even knew what was going on. They were all still eating. Once the bait dropped down within a second or two, I saw maybe 20 of the larger fish race to the bait from different directions, a quick pause and then BAM, my rod tip jerked and the line was zipping out of my reel. I set the hook and was reeling the fish in. Everyone in the boat came running over to see what was going on. About that time I am pulling the fish in and as it is coming into the boat, two other fish were chasing it in a frenzy and came flying into the boat biting at the fish I was reeling in. It was actually somewhat dangerous as multiple fish were flopping around in the boat with razor sharp teeth snapping away.

The feeding frenzy escalated and the water was boiling all around the boat. About six of us were catching fish like crazy. Turns out it was a large school of Bluefish. I've never caught so many fish so fast. We had to stop after catching about 50 or more of them as the enormous cooler in the back of the boat was going to get too full and we still had another day to bottom fish for snapper and grouper. I'll never forget that experience. It was my best fishing trip ever among many great fishing trips.
