Wisdom tooth surgery—who’s had it?

Wondering if any of y’all had your wisdom teeth out recently?
Did they put you to sleep or are you awake for it?
Do you know what drugs they give you? (Mainly if it’s Versed because that does not work for me)
How long does it hurt for? Can you use just Tylenol for the pain or will I need something stronger?
Should I plan to take the next day off of work?
Anything else I should know?

I had 4 taken out at once. If you get the procedure done at a dentist's office, they will usually give you laughing gas and numb you up big time, but you won't be completely asleep.
If you get the procedure done at a surgery center, they will most likely put you completely to sleep.
You will be pretty drugged up the day of the surgery and on your way home. The worst pain is usually the soreness (the next couple of days).
You can definitely tough it out with Tylenol, but they usually prescribe you something stronger.

I had mine done about 10 years ago. They pretty much knocked me out. I don't remember any of it. My mouth was swollen and sore for about 2 days but otherwise it wasn't that big of a deal for me. I definitely would plan on probably 2 days off from work.

Pretty much this. Went tubing the day after. Didn't really need the vicodin they gave me, but did pop one to see how it felt.
Felt pretty good.

Exact same thing happened for me. They gave me hydrocodone afterwards, fyi.

Had all 4 removed while I was in college, knocked me out and removed them then gave me hydrocodone afterwards.
You're good to go about 24-48 hours afterwards.

I was sedated. No clue what they sedated me with.
It's not terrible as long as you follow the instructions they give you.
I was given a plastic water syringe and told to clean out the hole left behind until it heals. Well, you gotta stick that plastic syringe down in the hole and force everything out. Like, the tip of the plastic needs to be well down inside your gums, not just hovering over the top. I wasn't doing that and food was building up in the hole and it was the nastiest thing you could imagine after a couple of days. Food literally rotting in your gums. It's a wonder I didn't get an infection. Don't drink out of a straw for however long they tell you or you'll get a dry socket.

I had three pulled at one time and the last one later. When I did the three I was asleep, awake for the last one

It hurt for a week but not too bad after the first couple of days. Ibuprofen was enough for me.

Had mine in hs. I was knocked out cold and woke up acting like when are we starting .

I had one removed 7-8 years ago. No gas or sedation. Just a shot to numb the area. The maybe 3 years ago I had the other three pulled. Same as the first time just a shot to numb. My wife is a dental hygienist so the dentist she worked for did it for free. I didn't have a lot of pain. For me the worst part was biting down on the gauze to stop the bleeding.

All four at once @ a medical college… did fine, believe they did hydrocodone. I’d do it over a long weekend- you’re gonna be sore.

I had one taken out manually in the dentist’s office when I was young, and it was a disaster. He couldn't pull it out in one piece, so he broke it up . Still couldn't get the pieces out out. He called an oral surgeon, got me an emergency appointment, and the aftermath of this was the worst pain Id ever been in. Three days of misery after that.
When I finally decided to get the rest out, I went straight to the oral surgeon. He knocked me out, I woke up and it was over. Almost no pain, just two days of ice cream and TV. So my advice would be not to fool around. When it comes to wisdom teeth or molars, just let the surgeon do it. You'll be glad.

All 4 at one time. Had them put me under. I remember the dentist going to put the shot in my mouth, and I woke up at home. I didn't swell that bad, went to work the next day.

Normally they put you to sleep, but not with anesthetics since you aren't intubated. IIRC they gave me nitrous oxide to relax and then ketamine to knock me out. I woke up after thinking we hadn't started yet, didn't know it even happened. After surgery, I wasn't in much pain, but I bled a lot. They gave me hydrocodone to take for pain, but I only took ibuprofen and that worked, but everyone is different. You'll definitely want to take a couple days off to recover.

I almost died. Inadequate anesthesia, fully awake, all 4 teeth at once,Demerol shut down my kidney function and I didn’t pee for 3-4 days and had to get a catheter which overflowed as Dr Facundus brought in visiting urology students to observe. It’s all a haze.

I had it done when I was in college by an oral surgeon. I was put to sleep for it. Had all four done at once and they were all impacted or partially impacted. They gave me hydrocodone, an antibiotic and something for nausea (which the antibiotic could cause). I had mine done the Friday before my Spring Break so that I had time to recover, it was also the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament so I had an excuse to watch basketball and do absolutely nothing. The worst thing was not being able to eat solid food (other than some noodles) for a few days.
It’s imperative that you don’t suck through a straw after having it done. You’ll get a dry socket.

I had all 4 done when I was a teenager, unlike many here I had a tough time after surgery. I was in pain for several days, the first night was brutal.
