If our next coach has a team making the playoffs, would you let him finish the season?

I know it is different, but Nebraska let Bo Pelini finish the season at LSU in 2007...he was doing double duty but it worked out for both schools.

Of course, Ole Miss might tell Lane to hit the road if he is leaving, but not sure how that helps their chances in the playoffs.

If he was going to Bama or A&M… absolutely not. Don’t let the door hit you in the arse.

If he was going to NFL… yes

Another college besides Bama…

(Nevermind, I read your OP wrong… I thought you were asking if our current HC was leaving)

Yes. If I was the school he was leaving I probably wouldn't let him finish though.

I tried thinking about this. I think so, but I also get being upset, so I don’t know.

Provided he can get coaches on board and has people setup to transition into portal world.

One thing that helps with the portal here is its LSU and Lane Kiffin.

A lot of players I feel would be interested as it kind of sells itself at some point.

if he's moving on to the pros, yes. If he's going to another school, no

Sure that’s enough to start making moves in the portal

Will ole Miss allow it? Unlikely considering it’s a conference rival he’d be going to. I wouldn’t blame them

A home playoff game with a guy out the door would be a tough scene

I am kinda interested in what Ole Miss fans think about this. Are they going to be happy if he stays or pissed that he is ruining their best season in most the fans' lifetimes?

If he's allowed to recruit for us and work the portal then I would have no objection

Yeah, he can finish at ole miss, as long as he is recruiting to here. Not sure ole miss will let that happen though

Absolutely fricking not.

And if I were LSU or Florida, I wouldn’t want him coaching the Egg Bowl.

That win and playoff berth are going to hit like crack. Much less a home win in the playoffs. Thats just begging to have the rug pulled out from under you.

OleMiss learned from its lessons.
LEBBY was hired by Oklahoma but he wanted to call the cotton bowl because it's would be an achievement on his resume.
OleMiss allowed it and OleMiss's offense was shutdown in that game.

I would but I am assuming he has plans to lock in his staff and to hit the portal and handle recruiting with new/existing staff.

If you let him finish the playoffs, it would be free positive publicity at Ole Miss’ expense. LSU’s new/current coach would be getting the shine for Ole Miss’ success. I think that positive outweighs the negative and the negatives can be mitigated by staff building and strong existing staff members. And you avoid the negative story of your coach abandoning a team in a playoff run.

If you're asking about Kiffin and if we (LSU) would / should let him finish at Ole Miss, absolutely. The sole reason LSU would like to have a contract in place at this point is for signing day and the portal. Frank can carry the water to the recruits in the interim.

Quite frankly, there's not much more Kiffin could do at LSU between now and conclusion of the playoffs, short of administrative stuff.

This to me is different than

I would never fault someone for making a jump in the coaching rankings from coordinator to head coach or even someone wanting to go to the NFL. But a "lateral" move to a rival absolutely not. Here is your box to pack your stuff.

ETA: I completely misread the post.

That is a tough one but in this scenario I probably say no you are done at OM.

If you have him signed and it’s public that he’s coming and that can be used in recruiting and portal discussions, yes he can finish season where he is, if the other school wants him to, but only if contract is finalized now.

However, if you're asking about Kiffin and Ole Miss, if I were Ole Miss, I would show him the door immediately.

LSU? No.

If you're a team that hasn't won shite in 60 years? Yes.
