ST. GABRIEL - A plant worker died following an exposure to hydrofluoric acid at a chemical plant in St. Gabriel, sources confirmed to the WBRZ Investigative Unit.
Sources said two workers with burns were taken from the Koura plant to a hospital. One of them died during surgery. Their name has not been released.
WBRZ has reached out to the plant for information about what caused the death. We are waiting to hear back.

What a horrible fricking way to die.

Had to be a big cloud. I wonder if the 2nd guy was close to the 1st. He's probably in pretty bad shape if he was.

Oh snap. Other than methyl ethyl eat your left testicle that is some really nasty stuff. Horrible way to go.

Had an episode of ER where a worker (Michael Rappaport?) was exposed. The F ion binds with Ca ions in your blood (according to Anthony Edwards), in addition to the burns. Anyone know what the objective is in surgery (other than "prevent death")?

And what it won't dissolve it will change the crystalline structure of.
What a horrible thing to endure.

That is some nasty stuff. I'm glad we don't deal with that in the plant I work in.

Can confirm. Turnaround just ended. Normal startup activities. The guy who made it is going to be ok.

Hydroflouric acid will frick. You. Up.
I work in the tank (among other things) rental industry and when someone asks if they can store HF, we just tell em nope. We have poly tanks but even still, it’s so nasty a chemical that we stay away.

Won't melt a break down a cast iron tub, one of the few chemistry mistakes in Breaking Bad but it was in the script...
