Constant injuries popping up, is this normal?

Mid 30s
Fairly active, gym 4 to 5 days a week. Plus play basketball, run, hike, work on projects around house and yard, coach kids, etc. work is partial active in field and partial office and driving. Eat normal, healthy diet all things considered.
Yet, every week I seem to have some new random injury popping up. This week it’s a strained calf and a strained fore arm. Last week it was lower back, then it was the neck, and the hamstring.
No rhyme or reasons. Just feel sore and injured all the time. I stretch, drink lots of water and electrolytes.
Is this normal, just getting old stuff. Or is there some sort of underlying inflammatory issue I should check into?

Varies
Weeks sometimes
Most recently I ran a 5k over the weekend with my family. Nothing crazy, I have ran 5Ks and 10Ks my whole life
Well after running it my calf is strained, hamstring and quads acting up too
And yes, I stretched before, for a good 20 minutes and stretched after running.
I am currently limping around with the injuries

Might just be aging... but I'd probably get checked out by my GP if these changes were sudden'ish- maybe you're low on some nutrient.
Aging kinda sucks sometimes, but as they say, it beats the alternative.

Are you on any meds regularly or any new ones?
Posted on 11/19/25 at 6:24 am to burger bearcat
Could be something like a vitamin deficiency that is new for you.
Get checked out by your doc and run some tests

You're starting to hit that age bracket where you begin to realize the importance of regular mobility work. You can poke around YouTube and find a bunch of free mobility routines and it doesn't need to be complicated or time consuming.
Joe Defranco's Limber 11 is a good starting point to perform before you workout or participate in sports. Cheers

I'm in my mid-thirties and noticed this started happening right after I turned 30. Always some small nagging injury or something going on.
I remember when people used to say something about their feet hurting when they hit the ground for the first time in the mornings. Well I've made it.

Just wait until you're pushing 50. You'll start feeling like your body is made of barbed wire.

Brother its just part of getting old. When I was in my 20's and even very early 30's I could go out on a Friday night get totally shitfaced stay out until 3AM and wake up at 8AM to go to gym like it was no big deal. Now, doing that puts me out of commission for 2 days (I've tried it) this isn't even taking into account all the aches and pains I have from shoulders, elbows, knees, ankles, etc. Just part of being old.

Stretching and mobility work, if not daily, at least 3-4 days a week.
Also most people tend to heal slower as they age. I'll tell on myself. A few weeks ago, I think it was 3.5 weeks back, my boys and I went on a camping trip with their troop. The place had a little creek and some kayaks, and after I had paddled my 7 year old around for a bit, several of us dads were standing at the banks watching the older boys take turns in the kayaks. I was barefoot, and tried to step out to a rock in the water to snap some pics. My left foot hit some slippery mud under the water, that was on a rock that was buried, and I went down hard and fast. Sliced my left foot, landed on my left hip, and banged my right knee against the rocks. It took almost two weeks for the scabs to heal up, and my right knee is still sore. Back in my 20s I would have been fine the next week.

Yep. I remember my grandpa telling me 'It ain't fun growing old'
I tell my brothers that we ain't 22 years old anymore.
As others have stated, wait till you start hitting your 50s. That's when they real 'fun' starts.
My advice, stay active but you are going to have to gear down on the more intense workouts. Focus more on flexibility, low impact cardio and moderate strength training.
Oh yeah, enjoy the moment. Life goes by a lot faster than you realize.

The true sign of aging is when recovery takes longer and longer.
That’s what I tell patients all the time.
It’s easier to strain muscles, tendons, joints…and it lasts longer.
I repeatedly tell myself to back off on my resistance training intensity, but it’s hard mentally when I’ve been doing it since high school.
Using a trigger point gun every day for 30+ minutes helps me tremendously.

They make "supplements" that help recovery.

The biggest lesson i have learned over decades kf lifting is listen to your body and take action before it gets too bad. Taking a little time off to reduce intensity, do rehab type work, etc... Is critical. I was still able to go hard into my early 40s but now in early 50s my goal is to be able to workout again tomorrow. Period.

Part of that is just getting older but not sure how much. Your 30’s are when you start making that transition from doing whatever you want physically in your twenties to understanding your limitations in your 40’s.
I hurt myself a few times in my late 30’s and early 40’s because I thought I could still do whatever I’d always been able to do.
