Beat them twice and was doing things at Okie State that had never been done before. Thats when no one was losing to Oklahoma with Stoops.

Because Saban left so late in the coaching season, Meyer and Spurrier had already accepted positions elsewhere.

All in all, Les still did a good job.

Someone posted that we wanted another dude, and he turned us down, and Sexton connected us to Saban.

If true, Saban wasn’t the #1.

I’ve had too many beers over the years to remember that.

Yup this was a big factor that a lot of LSU folks were mad about.

Are you asking who the admin wanted or who the fans wanted? Bc in most cases those are very different.

I know some are saying Saban. Only Emmert wanted Saban. Joe Dean did not want him and did not want to pay him the $1.05 million Saban was asking. Emmert told Dean to make it happen when they interviewed him.

I think with all coaching searches, the fans end up most disappointed bc the hire is not someone they wanted.

By 1999 and DiNardo’s quick fall the program was not in good position. Joe Dean was looking coordinators and Mark Richt was highly thought of from FSU.

Sean Tuohy helped put Dean and Sexton together (why Dean was still involved after Archer, Curly, and DiNardo is another ?) for Saban. He impressed, Emmert paid what was required and the sleeping giant awakened.
