The belief that income equality is a good thing

The period in American history where there was the least amount of income inequality was the Great Depression. Do the leftists really argue that this was an economic golden age?

Income inequality, taken too far, is an enormous destabilizing force for any culture. That’s not me making some weird case for socialist “ income equality” ( which fails way harder) but rather just a statement about the inherent problem with having an uber wealthy class of Wealth Gods at the same time tens of millions can’t afford meat.

when i graduated college in 1983, the top income tax rate for federal taxes was 50% on ever dollar over 28k, in arkansas it was 7% on every dollar over 34k so 57 cents on every dollar, 28k wasn't a lot of money then.
if you where talented, hard working and ambitious it was misery, but it was the golden age for average, non ambitious, slackers!

Basic human necessities, comforts, security, etc are more “equal” now, in this country (and likely otherwise), than ever in the history of civilization.
One can basically be a member of the leisure class on the teat of the state. I mean, that’s usually a vastly different lifestyle than even the upper middle class.
But relative to all times and places in history, it isn’t.

The biggest difference in poverty over the last 100 years deals with what poor people buy. During the Depression the poorer class spent money on what was needed to survive. Today, the poorer class buy stupid shite.

In actual standard of living, there is no time in world history where the poorest and the richest were more equal than they are now.
This goes for anywhere in the world, and especially in 1st-world countries.

The inequalities you are referencing have nothing to do with the inequalities of today.
The "empire-killing" inequalities were when you had the wealthy and then millions of people starving and working in slave labor conditions.
That doesn't exist today, at least not in the 1st world.
Outside of drug addicts and the mentally ill, no one in this country goes hungry or lacks shelter.
"Poor" is a relative term. An extreme few people are "poor" in a historical context.

I don't want income equality. I know i am worth more than the majority of Americans and am paid accordingly. I do think we need to raise minimum wage though.

If I was ever someone who was dictated to regarding a cap on my income, I would not do jack shite going forward.
