Why would Kiffin stay at Ole Miss?

Once LSU hires a comptetant Head Coach, then LSU has a perpetual advantage over Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin.
Ole Miss barely beat LSU this year.
What will happen next year when a new coach, with almost unlimited resources, fields a team that Ole Miss can't match and Kiffin's coaching won't be enough to overcome.
Then and only then will Kiffin realize that being at Ole Miss has a professional ceiling that doesn't and will not include winning a National Championship.

In an ideal scenario, if you're Ole Miss, you hope that Lane just loves Ole Miss / Oxford / university so much that he'll stay there for the rest of his career as a top paid HC and cruise to retirement like a Saban/Bama situation and be an Ole Miss legend.
The reality is, its hard to see Kiffin staying at Ole Miss when he has at least 10 years left as a HC and there are offers out there with higher compensation and provide a new challenge.
Hes pretty much maxxed out at Ole Miss and gave them success they've never seen before. He shouldnt feel like he owes them anything if he wants to leave.

- He's a god in Oxford
- He'll get paid top 3-5 money in his current role
- Ole Miss has proven they'll support him from an NIL perspective
- He has less pressure there year-in and year-out
- Oxford is actually a pretty great place to live (better than Baton Rouge or Gainesville)
The question is whether or not his desire to win a championship trump his current situation. I'm not sure he has enough of that hunger. We'll see.

Because of the ditch made of luxurious fabric used to make Elvis paintings.

He goes to LSU and wins a national championship, cool he fulfilled the expectation by doing what Les Miles and Ed O already did.
He goes to Florida and wins a championship, cool he fulfilled the expectation and did what Spurrier and Meyer already did.
He stays at Ole Miss and he would likely go down as their greatest coach, even without winning a championship. If he wins one, he will have surpassed expectations and done something truly remarkable.

Well, given the last HFC to not be fired (which one could use as a gauge of competency) was Saban I’d say anyone worrying about LSU hiring a competent coach is wasting worries.

Discounting what winning a NC at LSU or UF means seems silly.
For UF, he would be seen in the same light as SOS IMO.
Bring UF from a low point to a NC would mean a lot.

You're living in the past man. All the advantages that people tout for LSU over other programs have largely disappeared in the NIL era. LSU still has an in state recruiting edge to be sure, but that is less relevant today than it was ten years ago. The better question is: why would Kiffin leave Ole Miss? He's turned a mid/lower tier team that hasn't been relevant since the late 60's into a playoff contender. And he's done that in the SEC. That's impressive. Ole Miss has shown it can raise the money to buy players in the portal and Kiffin can recruit high school players at a level that is good enough. Ole Miss doesn't have the expectations LSU or Florida does, so if he competes for a playoff slot regularly, he'll never be fired. Couple that with an eight figure comp package and living in Oxford, which is arguably a better quality of life than Baton Rouge or Gainesville and I don't see why he'd leave.

While money can level the playing field, there have been numerous folks talk about how program prestige is STILL a factor. If you notice, its still mostly the most prestigious programs that populate the top ranks.

I would say NIL has diminished the advantages to an extent, but not wiped them out. I agree in principle, though.

I think this part -- that Ole Miss can raise enough funds to build playoff teams -- combined with the Velvet Ditch argument where he can just be a god there for the rest of his career and deal with far less drama is the more compelling argument to stay.
When all the smoke started, I assumed he'd sign his extension and stay. But it's clear that he's seriously considering leaving. He may just be the type that loves the bright lights, and Gville and BR are much bigger platforms & stadiums where he would have a higher ceiling. Who knows.

This ^^^. No one wants to admit it but I have been saying this for the last few years. Now some kids will take less $ to still go to LSU but there is no putting a fence around the state anymore. No player cares about the development as a player its just about how much can you give me.

Didn’t y’all drop 20 million on your current roster?
Lotta what ifs in your post. Hopes and dreams.

Because the options that are most often cited are living in Gainesville, FL or Baton Rouge, LA. Those make Oxford look like Shangri-La.

That depends on what you are looking for. Kiffin doesn’t seem like the type that wants to live in a small town for the next 20 years.
