Already I think you see fewer enormously obese people 100+ lbs overweight around. I think people with the propensity for becoming massively obese will be able to be put on these drugs earlier before it gets out of control and be able to maintain being simply overweight versus becoming severely obese. It is really pretty crazy to imagine as it seems like only a few years ago you would see monstrously obese people everywhere in increasing numbers.

No because you gain the weight back the moment you get off of them. And 30 down the line it could turn out that the long term effects were awful and they stop using them for obesity

Can’t wait for all these fatties to trade a lifetime of statins and blood pressure meds for a lifetime of hormone therapy

This simply isn't true. People may gain weight back if they continue bad eating habits, but its not due to the shot.

I lost 75 lb using the weight loss shot. I've been off of it for a year and have not regained the weight, but I did keep the good eating habits that I developed while on the shot.

It was life changing for me.

I'll take one without an attitude.

I get enough attitude at home.

extreme obesity will not end until we quit subsidizing it, with govt handouts and not making them pay higher medical insurance rates.

Counting calories is the number 1 thing. Track everything that you eat and drink. You will quickly develop good eating habits if you set a calorie budget and stick to it.

Fat people should have to pay higher taxes

Your income tax rate should be the number of minutes it takes you to run a mile

In the next few years newer iterations of these products will be coming out and you will see obesity and the verbage surrounding it change significantly. Doctors will be encouraged to no longer say that patients are obese but rather "living with obesity" and taught that being obese is not a choice in any way. Essentially it will be considered a disease. Its coming, don't shoot the messenger though lol.

We have already seen some of this in the recent past but it will really get ramped up in the next year or two.

There is some level of this in Japan

I think if you're a male of a certain age range and your waist is more than 33 inches you have to pay some fines

I don't think so because I fear there is always going to be the issue of access for many, fear for others and simply inertia for still others.

It's frustrating that more people don't have access to these drugs, and we can talk all we want to about energy balance and caloric restriction (which unshakable physical truths) until we are blue in the face, but there are some people who just can't get it done without something that helps them achieve a caloric defiict. I don't know why it is and it is very well borne out in that the typical person underestimates caloric intake by as much as 20% whereas the typical individual who is overweight underestimates daily caloric intake by about 40%. This makes long-term success very difficult. This is where cognitive behavioral therapy (even self-directed) can have a great degree of benefit.

Also I think many individuals underestimate the value of building and mainting lean body mass in favor of simple calorie burning exercise to help with weight management. This is a huge mistake and building/maintianing lean muscle mass is absolutely critical along with caloric restriction to maintining a healthy weight/body composition. But this isn't easy, and often is not enjoyable, hence the problem we see in society at large.

The thing about weight gain is that yes if an individual stops the drug and resumes eating in a caloric excess, they will inded gain the weight back. What I do is stress that these drugs are not magic at all, they just help an individual reach a state of a caloric defiict, and the only thing they will change is how much food an individual takes in. My hope is that understanding and believing this will be the difference in the future between completely regaining what can be lost and at least having some modicum of success maintaing a more healthy and/or desirable weight.

and

no we know the long term effects considering they have been around for 2 decades and GLP-1 is a natural hormone that is already in the body. its just a peptide

god damn some of you are stupid AF

and will glp1 end extreme obesity...no...the 4th gen of these drugs prolly will though.

Happy to hear this.

It's not for everyone, but if it works for you, it's likely worth it.

I think the bigger question is when will Uncle Sam subsidize it so that not being fat is only for the elite. Them shots are expensive.

Also, this is how I Am Legend begins.
