Shouldn't have Frank tried to ice the Bama kicker?

Obviously 1000 things went wrong before you get to this moment and it probably wouldn't have made a difference, but with one timeout left I feel like that was your best chance at decent field position for a one score game. Gives you a chance for the 2 minute drill.

Icing the kicker is 50/50 as well but think most people would have done it.

LOL.. what are you talking about... if it is 50/50, why would you waste the last timeout?? ... you do realize timeouts are important if trying to run 2 min drill

It would have been moronic to waste your final timeout there

The timeout is useless if its a two score game though - it's essentially a use or lose. Hoping they miss it and you keep your timeout is a have your cake and eat it too

Yeah, Wilson's really stupid mistake was with 1:07 left in the first half with LSU having the ball at around its own 30, LSU tries a pass on 3rd and 7 or whatever. Alabama was out of timeout....LSU's field position was not that good...the yardage was probably not going to be picked up...and an incomplete pass would stop the clock which it did.

LSU SHOULD have run the ball and brought the clock down to probably 20 seconds and then punted. Instead, Alabama got the ball back with a 1 minute left and went down and scored before halftime. WIlson's excuse was "We weren't after moral victories". Hey Frank, how about going after the win. That was DUMB given the circumstances. If you are at midfield in that situation, that is different.

you think Wilson's calling plays lol

to op, icing the kicker is a waste of time. if you do it with one timeout then they know you wont be able to do it again ,all of the anticipation is gone for the kicker. its better to do it when you have multiple timeouts. you damn sure dont waste a timeout in a game with time left to do it

You are basing your assumption on "icing the kicker" working 90% of the time... so your whole thought process is wrong after that ... 0 coaches would have wasted the last (or any) timeout in that situation Saturday.

you're worried about him not calling a TO when it was our last TO. The pass play on 3rd and long at the end of first half was a bad decision and it cost us 7pts

In that situation, you fake a TO.

If he missed it, LSU would have had a penalty appear, for something.

yourself. I guess you didn't read any of the HUNDREDS of posts about Kelly being blamed for plays because he must have OKed them, huh? Plus, where did I say he CALLED the play. I didn't. I said a RUN should have been made instead of a PASS to run out almost all the clock. That is STRATEGY not calling plays. And that IS the head coach's job.

icing the kicker doesn't have much value. Kickers usually already have a couple minutes in advance of their kick to know it’s probably coming and they’re already as nervous as they’re going to get.

Wasting a TO on that is dumb.

i mean if it works its not dumb and it immediately became a two score game. The kick was the end of the game.

Fully see the crowd is not with me on this one though

Timeouts are reserved for when nuss gets confused early in the 1st and 3rd quarters.
