11/22/1963 DB56 was in Ms. Meeks 2nd grade classroom and a senior girl student helper came in upset and announced to a group of 2nd graders that president Kennedy had been shot.
She came in later crying to tell us he had died. As a 2nd grade kid I had absolutely no clue what all this meant other than someone important had been shot and died.
Got home and I could tell my mom was very upset and I was really confused on WITH was going on.
Days later I remember seeing the flag draped coffin on the caisson and JFK Jr saluting as it passed and my 7 year old mind not understanding what it meant.

THEN, I remember my dad as he was talking to my uncle on the phone and he was speaking of LBJ with some words I later learned were "ugly".

FYI...we had also been doing the "get under your desk and tuck you head" drill .......... just incase the doomsday missiles were headed our way.

Damn what time to be living.

Man, I thought I was old.
I wouldn’t even be alive until about a decade later.

This will be a cool thread.... even my mama wasn't old enough to know what was going on as she was only about a year and a half old.

My mom was in elementary school.
She remembers Oswald’s assassination better, they were all home watching it live.

Hell baw, 69 ain't old unless you let it.
I walk 3 miles at least 4 days a week, keep several "honey do's" going, help all my other baws with their projects, hunt, fish as much as I can and do my best to stay as active as I can.

ssssssshhhhhh I also do my best to get some at least once a week.

IIR, I remember overhearing the "grown ups" saying it was LBJ. FYI, other than maybe the folks in Texas, LBJ was not well liked in the south due to his giving away "stuff" to get black votes. Now look where we're at.

I was in high school in the middle of exams. They did tell us during study hall.
TV was devoted to the funeral for three days, nothing but the funeral. I remember DeGaulle in his uniform and Emperor Haile Selassie from Ethiopia.
The caisson being pulled by the riderless horse with boots facing backwards.

We lived two hours from D.C. so had heard lots of gossip about his misbehaviors and how Jackie had to buy a farm so she could join a particular hunt in the rich country to our northeast.

I was barely a year old for JFK. But I do remember when MLK was assassinated - not the news event itself, but I remember my dad immediately went out and bought a couple firearms "because the government is about to make them illegal"

In all seriousness. With the air raid drills, POTUS getting shot, Oswald getting shot, etc. ..... it was some disturbing times for a young redneck kid in south Rapides Parish.

Instead of PTSD, I think it made us stronger or maybe without SM blasting everything out in real time, we were just a bunch of kids not understanding (or caring) while we rode our bikes around with playing cards clipped to the fork of our bikes to make the cool thruthurthur sound as we peddled around the neighborhood unafraid of being molested.
