Who says there is no such thing as bad publicity?
This article may break that 'truism'.
The collapse of the commercial leasing market with empty skyscrapers gets a thorough look.
Lots of pictures of big buildings.
Not a whole lot good to say about their future.

The Hancock Whitney Center used to be One Shell Square. It is one of the tallest buildings in New Orleans, along with Place St. Charles.

The K&B building was built well before 1999.
The market is indeed a disaster, though.

" Southern Jewel"
The very sad part is it COULD be a southern jewel and one of the best cities in this country, if it wasn't run so poorly.

Nola commercial default rate is already at an alltime high and it will continue to rise in the next 2 years. It’s not if- this is going to happen.
New mayor isn’t going to stem the tide in the meantime except to help put a better face on the city to give potential lessors confidence that the city is worth investing in.
There’s lot of work to do and if it can be turned around, it’s going to be a long slow process. It’s like turning a large tanker. It takes time

You get who the majority of constituents vote for and unfortunately the majority of the constituents in N.O. aren't voting for good leaders.

When you punish producers and reward leaches, degradation is always the result.

There’s also a pic of a building on Causeway claiming it’s in Los Angeles…
There’s a lot of inaccuracies in that article..

You'd have to be on drugs to finance a Class A building in New Orleans in the last sixty years or so. Population has declined since 1960. Big business has continuously left at every hurricane and flood cycle, which has been a nice cover for wanting to leave a poorly-run messy city. The middle class there is a handful of professors at vaiours universities and a lot of tourism types. Not exactly a hallmark of prosperity.

My understanding is that while New Orleans might be particularly leveraged due to a decline in demand, there are overextended commercial space issues nationally.
Heck I was reading that most of the Vegas strip is on the verge of collapse with black rock holding notes on the land that many casinos are located on with 2% annual escalation clauses and the casinos are hemorrhaging money as a result even as prices explode.

New Orleans has seen high levels of empty office buildings as it is still feeling a hit from the pandemic
I can think of a whole lot of reasons that people are avoiding downtown New Orleans- and none of them have anything to do with catching a cold.

…and your brain damaged governor is more interested in LSU football rather than correcting the crime problems in all his cities

New Orleans issue was no room for expansion and growth, so businesses left. There is a glut of office space everywhere, no one wants or needs to be in an office building anymore. People are moving and want to live and work in the suburbs everywhere.

Landry didn’t vote for Jason Williams. New Orleans residents did.
At some point you democrats need to stop blaming republicans for the problems you created.
This was signed under Landry. Crime was higher under the Democrat governor.
Truth in sentencing: A series of bills that require inmates to serve at least 85% of their sentences and limit or eliminate good-time releases and parole for most offenders.
Also tried to pass trying under 18 as an adult for certain crimes. Louisiana residents voted against it.

Disagree.
New Orleans doesn't need room. It's run exceedingly poorly, they can't pick up the trash either literally or metaphorically. Big and little business has been leaving for Mississippi, Houston, Dallas, etc... since my parents were children.
They don't need room when everybody is leaving.
The latest fad to working at home is merely icing on the cake, the white caps on the swells that have been hitting the city for sixty years.
It's really bad optics when a big company leaves so every time there is an ugly hurricane, lots of business leaves and blames it on the storm.
That's just a convenient excuse and I don't blame them.

I grew up in NOLA, you could see the decline in the 70's, started with Moon Landrieu, corrupt as hell and catering to the Black vote and making a lot of the Superdome services for black workers only. Then on to Dutch Morial- His qualifications? He's black! I heard commercials on the black radio stations, 'Let's elect a brother as mayor!". Went to shite more and more from there...you wonder if it can get any worse after LaToya the Destroyer, but you know it can and probably will! Banana Republic! New mayor? Oh, she's Hispanic, but all she is doing is putting the same crooks back into positions of power, nothing will change for the good!
