Lost in all of This: Matt McMahon

His fate is already sealed. Just a matter of if he makes the season or not. With Woodward out he's lost any armor that he had.
To the "I dont care about basketball" crowd: frick off. A large amount of LSU fans/donors would love to see this program back on a path to competing in the tournament.
If Rousse is installed at President and things just don't seem to fit at NC State: there is a door open that you can see tPear return. It was never going to happen with Woodward.
Even if it isn't Wade, we can do a lot better than what we have. The SEC is fast becoming the top basketball conference in the country.

You say that, but you know the melt here will be huge no matter who is hired, because they’re not Wade. Just more apocalyptic doom about the demise of our athletic program.

We may as well give mcmahon the season at this point. It starts in like 5 days

Even with Woodward in place I expected this season to be McMahon's last stand.

Agree, but if Shroyer is the AD, he’s a basketball guy and we will get a much better coach than Woodward would have hired. Far fetched to think it would be Wade, but have more confidence in someone not named Woodward making the hire.

That's why I believe good coaches in another conference would want a foot in the door.

Matt is a standup guy who most likely was always a placeholder.
I hope he finds a way this season to work it out, but at least we have moved through the NCAA stuff with enough grace to move forward.

i like your idea of keeping door open for WW. never say never. if it don't work out at NCSU......we can take him back. Would he consider coming back with a new admin? Being woody is gone i sure would hope so.

SW openly admitted that they failed to fund MBB properly.
SW hadn’t done McMahon any favors.

He already has a relationship with Wade Rousse and the guy that threw him under the bus was just fired. Of course he'd consider it.

The obsession over will wade has far exceeded his actual coaching ability. You’d think he’s saban and wooden all rollled into one. I just hope when we can McMahon we find someone equal or better.

Not the first time McMahon and Lost have been used in the same sentence.
Bring back tPear

He only said that so that he didn’t have to cut McMahon a giant check last year. Several other athletic directors with shite coaches used the same excuse.

I really dont understand the Wade detractors on here. Wade had the program at its most exciting since the Dale Brown years here. Even under like half his tenure under fire or job in limbo he still kept producing results. He effectively had us in the tournament his last 4 years here and got MCNEESE ST to the tournament both years he was there. Six straight years of being in the tournament effectively and 2 of those were with an absolutely laughable basketball program in McNeese St.
The guy can obviously coach and he ignited the program to huge levels of interest. We would be absolutely stupid to not go back after him. His NC ST buyout is only $3M after April 1 of 2026, basically peanuts. that deal got structured as if it would be a pretty brief stop for him.

I doubt Shroyer would be the AD. Literally is ONLY accomplishment as an AD is being friends with Wade and offering him a job when most schools wouldn't. Regardless, barring the unexpected, I think you will see some degree of a push for Wade at the end of this season. With Woodward gone, I think you'd have to see McMahon have a remarkable season for the powers that be to even consider retaining him. Simply making the NCAAT probably wouldn't be enough.
I've said it on here before, but Wade's NC State contract is not a massive contract. McMahon is being paid more than him this year. While the ACC has a great basketball tradition, the reality is the conference as a whole has fallen well behind the Big 10 and SEC. LSU could make a "strong arse offer" to Wade if it wants. And he still has a lot of donor support in the state. With the President and AD that fired him and blocked the push get him back to LSU out of the way, the runway is clear for a return. The ball would be in Wade's court.
Unfortunately, the push may be a year too late. He'll likely have success at NC State this year. It's a good spot for him. If he wins some games vs. Duke and UNC, the NC State people will make it a priority to fight off any poachers.

Which was Woodward’s reason for not firing McMahon.
Absolutely no way he was going to go into a coaching search with wade in the second round of the NCAA right down I-10.
His smug self wouldn’t be able to handle the push for him to admit his mistake.

Relative to college basketball as a whole? Probably.
Relative to the last 3 decades of LSU basketball? No. That's the more salient discussion.
Love him or hate him, Wade won at the most consistent level at LSU since the early 90's. He then went to McNeese and immediately led one of the biggest single season turnarounds in NCAA history. He did so because he fully embraces the NIL era. He'll work the speaking circuit to generate the funds he needs and he's a hell of a recruiter. Yes, he was paying players when he was at LSU...but so were the big-time schools he was up against in recruiting battles (UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Arizona, etc). The point is, Wade wasn't simply offering MUCH more money to guys like Smart, Thomas, Watford, etc. He was winning the recruiting battle too.
Are their better coaches than Wade out there? Of course. But there may not be a better one for LSU. The guy has a .700 career winning % and still has the highest winning % at LSU of any coach within the last 70 years or so.

McMahon now not only needs to make the tournament but needs to pretty much do it style. If we scrape our way in as a 10 seed bubble team and get whacked in the first round he’ll probably get Rodney Terry’d.
I don’t think tPear will be back. At least not for a few years. He’s at a school where basketball is heritage and he and Mrs. Pear are raising their little girl close to home.
