The boosters will pay what they want, for who they want

Sure avoiding large buyouts is nice, and it's probably the right thing to do...
But they wanted Kelly gone. They paid the money for him to be gone. The governor can't make them settle for someone without a large buyout.
They have the money, and they can spend it on a new coach with a large buyout if they want to, I don't think Landry's comments should be taken seriously.

Exactly, and that’s all that matters.

“We have to protect the taxpayers from footing the bill of another large buyout.” -Jeff Landry

I get Jeff’s point about LA taxpayers having to foot the $53Mil buyout if the boosters decide not to pay. That’s a terrible deal.
There’s also probably a slim chance Woodward just fired BK on the word that boosters would pay the buyout. He must have gotten some legal document signed by the boosters to pay. If not, the Woodward is a moron.
Summary: Jeff is right that the LA taxpayers could be on the hook for the $53Mil buyout, BUT he’s acting publicly like there’s no superseding contract that was signed that protects the taxpayers.

Under no circumstances are tax dollars to be used for funding LSU’s athletic program. That’s pretty common knowledge these days. Jeff Landry literally made that up and spread the rumor to make himself a hero

This is flat out wrong. Kelly’s salary as an LSU employee is like $200,000. If the taxpayers are on the hook for anything, I assume it would be that however that works.

So who is responsible for the buyout? Isn't his contract with LSU?

The problem at this point is optics.
Someone else already put it perfectly: every time he opens his mouth the hiring pool shrinks.

Landry is right on most of what he is saying but he should be handling it behind the scenes. That is the issue

I haven’t read the contract and trust people on TD more than Jeff Landry. But who would be on the hook if the boosters decided not to pay? TAF?
Posted on 10/30/25 at 2:05 pm to loogaroo
I would imagine his contract is with TAF?

BK would NOT have been fired if our big boosters had not stepped up to the plate money-wise.
Posted on 10/30/25 at 2:08 pm to Tifway419
Because Jeff is retarded and doesn’t care if he’s right or wrong, as long as he’s seen.
I would imagine TAF would be responsible for the buyout. There’s zero way taxpayers would be paying that.

Landry stated clearly that he sat down with lawyers Sunday morning and the lawyers said that the state of Louisiana would be on the hook if the boosters failed to pay the buyout.
You said this was flat out wrong, but “imagine” that TAF would be required to pay? I was thinking you knew something concrete, other than just not believing Landry because he’s a retard (which I don’t disagree with).

I really think Woodward had secured the buyout after the Vandy game. It was just a matter of time to pull the plug. I think the A&M debacle accelerated the plan.

Lying about the voters footing the bill for a buyout funded with private money while he pushes to fire a guy whose buyout the voters will actually have to foot the bill for.
