I would anticipate Sumrall being the guy

If you go down the “hot board” that has been circulating, although very early, it should start to become obvious that Sumrall is most likely going to end up being the guy due to timing.
Kiffin- Clearly the top target but are we really willing to wait with a potential handshake deal as he cruises to the playoffs? At worst he will be playing a beatable team in the first round. So chances are we miss signing day and the opening of portal window to wait on a coach that is eyeing a semifinal position. Ole Miss in semis - why leave? Starts to look bleak.
-Lanning- Passed on Bama. Will be deep in playoffs like Kiffin. Will Oregon let another coach get plucked? Doubtful.
-Kenny Dilly- There is potential here he would be a call made before Sumrall. “I’m home” seems to be the consistent theme. Can be done but not an easy pull.
- Marcus Freeman- Last call IMO before Sumrall. Would make a splash in recruiting and keeping the class plus great portal acumen. Are we willing to risk yet another wait and see for a playoff coach who is Ohio State bound the moment Day leaves. Not even mentioning the ND to LSU optics.
- Jon Sumrall - At this point down the list I think Jon appears. I don’t think we make it further down before he gets the call especially with the waiting game for the coaches above. Also of note, the BOS will want to move quick if they are targeting Sumrall as he will most certainly be at a competitor SEC program in January.
When we get to the Brent Keys and Brohms of the list, Sumrall will have had to say no first imo. Which won’t happen.

He would win big at LSU. I know tiger fans want a big name but its just true.
He is thought of very highly from his time coaching here.

Ole Miss was projected to play Georgia on the road in the first round the last time I looked
That's not exactly an ideal matchup for them

Who the frick would want to follow Saban?
If Bama called today I gaurantee you it’s a different story.
Do y’all put anything into consideration when saying this shite?

If Ole Miss wins out (likely but not guaranteed) they will be 11-1 with probably a top 5 ranking.
They will probably end up playing someone like Texas Tech.

Im not certain if he would leave. It would be hard to give up that Nike money. Plus wouldn't you think Oregon has a easier path to the playoffs than SEC schools?

Well. The play tonight so we can check out the Tulane team

The only reason Lanning would consider it would be if he is dead set on getting back into the SEC.
Money won’t be a factor for Oregon. Quality of life for him and the family , Oregon wins. Path to playoff Oregon wins.
It would completely be about being in the SEC and having a deep understanding of what LSU is capable of. I’m just not sure that’s Lannings mindset. Could be. Just not something I’m banking on.

Him being at Tulane is gonna be an issue.

Hanny voice “IM NOT PUSHIN SUMRALL”
- Him coming from Tulane should have zero bearing on his projected success at LSU. I agree some of the good old boys will be idiots and make this a problem. The most Louisiana thing we could do is follow up the Governor circus with insecurity issues about Tulane.

I’ll get cooked but I truly think Sumrall or Sheppard ends up being head coach. Just one man’s opinion

CBS Sports predicts-
quote:
UCLA hires James Franklin
Penn State hires Mike Elko
Texas A&M hires Lincoln Riley
USC hires Jedd Fisch
Florida hires Lane Kiffin
Ole Miss hires Jon Sumrall
Tulane hires Hugh Freeze
Auburn hires Rhett Lashlee
SMU hires Eric Morris
Washington hires Ryan Grubb
Virginia Tech hires Shane Beamer
South Carolina hires Brent Key
Georgia Tech hires Brian Kelly
LSU hires Eli Drinkwitz

I would put Drink in the Brohm/Key group. They will take Sumrall before Drink. Unless we wait and get stood up by Kiffin and miss Sumrall.
Again, not pushing this. Just starting to see the writing on the wall and may need to start paying attention to this guy and learn a little bit to hopefully get excited about him.

By the time Landry is done we may be looking at High School coaches

He'd have us in a better spot in 4 years than the one Kelly left in that time for half the price.

I don’t think it will be Lanning. But if it was it would be because of the SEC prestige, the history of LSU in terms of coach’s able to win big there…. And maybe most of all the exhausting travel when coaching Oregon but playing all away games on the east coast.

Did they mention Arkansas?
