I have noticed this more and more recently. Restaurants, quiet waiting rooms, retail stores, etc. They can’t hear well so they turn the volume up to high. What’s funny to me is they once were so pissed that phones were taking over in restaurants and public places when it went mainstream in the 90’s, and now they don’t GAF.

Some of the stuff you hear is them watching controversial videos like politics and ideology.

I am entertained by it, and that they have no shame. Oh the benefits of being old!

Dude, it’s not just old people…

It seems to be a thing everyone does, it’s obnoxious.

Mostly old whites (because they’re confused) or ethnics doing it on purpose

They have no idea how to work their devices... and we do them no favors constantly changing the interfaces for the sake of change

My mother, (84 y/o) loves to put callers on speakerphone. maybe she can hear them better. kinda of a breach of phone etiquette, though.

Ha. Made an early Starbucks run this AM and, while standing there waiting for my order, I hear this loud noise (not coming from the Starbucks employees).

Look around and, sure enough, a gaggle of old people watching a video with the volume full blast.

fricking old people...

Blame Nextel for this. I remember the douches that using the Nextel 2 Way Paging feature like a love line or party line while buying groceries at the store.

You would hear everyone's business as you shopped.

It was popular because Nextel didn't charge a fee if you were calling each other using the 2 way talk feature, but if you dialed a number it was using your minutes.

I guess Nextel 2 way talk was the iMessage Blue or Green Bubble of the 1990's.

In my experience, it's almost exclusively older latinos.

Most of the old people today weren’t old 30-35 years ago

That was the most obnoxious phone ever. Ear piercing like a commercial UHF radio.

I'm officially old person, I rarely see this happen, but I carry a BT earpiece so when I'm in Dr, Dujour's waiting room, I can listen to a book.

The islams do that shite on purpose with the volume as high as it will go. I've run in to this more than once.

The worst is in a restaurant, where a table full of old farts calls cousin Mabel on speaker at full blast to shoot the shite about what they are having for lunch, how Larry's gall bladder operation went, etc. Of course, they all yell when talking to Mabel.

I don't know if (1) they don't realize how much all the other customers want to kill them or (2) they just don't care.

If my table started YELLING ABOUT THE FOOTBALL GAME, THE WEATHER, BILLY'S INGROWN TOENAIL, ETC. they would cut us dirty looks or call a manager to complain.

If someone calls me when I'm in public, I send it to voice mail or quickly answer and tell them I'll call back in a few minutes.
