I believe the wife and I just crossed the Millionaire threshold.
This obviously includes all assets (Home value, retirement, real estate, cash on hand, etc. etc.), but really just dawned on me. I figured it to be $1,003,000 today.

Cool to say, but doesn't feel like it at times

I'm 36. How old were you when you became a Millionaire?

Congrats. Ahead of the curve.

Unfortunately because it isn’t. Millionaire count has gone way up over the last 5-10 years. But so has the cost of living.

The wealth gap is continually a massive issue. I’d be scared into employment if I was a “have not.”

Heh - I'm not ready to call it yet and I'm 20 years older. Congrats.

Congrats! Big milestone.

I think a million in a taxable brokerage is when it starts feeling like “ok, we’re cooking”…the flexibility for how and when to use the funds plus the compounding at that scale is impactful to financial independence.

Congrats! And that's awesome at a very young age.

I think we are within 6 months of that milestone, but we may be crossing it right about now depending on the value of our real estate assets. This is where I struggle the most with, and the value could fluctuate by $150k or more every year. It's not as clear cut as the mortgage liability.

This. It's VERY common in the over 55 crowd.

But it's still a cool milestone, especially for us 1980s/1990s kids when the term "millionaire" actually meant something. And a very admirable one if you didn't get "out patient economic care" from your parents or grandparents.

I'll let yall know when it happens. I'm a little younger than you but in no danger of this happening any time soon. Raising a family on a single income and started life in debt so I might never get there.

The envy is strong for me when I come read this board.

I started the same as you but was able to turn the corner in my late 20s early 30s. I'm not quite to 7 figures yet in net worth, but also not too terribly far off.

Make that debt your priority. Best thing you can do right now. Good luck to you.

The exact moment sort of slipped by us. We dug deeply into our savings around age 40 and opened a small business while taking on no debt in 17’.

It did well for us overall. Had a few breaks go our way and made some of our own luck too. Those first few years we really raked it in; but, as one would expect soon thereafter competition emerged and our sales slowed.

Dumped the lions share of our earnings into Index ETF’s during the Covid stock market crash. Those have paid us handsomely.

Sort of saw inflation coming with all the Covid stimulus money and realized that Florida had simultaneously voted for a $15 minimum wage in 2020.

We gambled that housing prices were about to surge and ordered a new build. By the time we got to closing the builder was offering us $200,000 to walk away from the contract. Instant equity is always good.

I’m guessing around age 41-42 for me.

Congratulations on the milestone and achievement.

My advice to you now is to keep going and perhaps look at the balance less often. As your wealth grows the day to day market swings also get larger. Seeing a daily change of $50,000-100,000 or more can be unnerving and often convinces people to make irrational decisions and pull money out.

Stay the course; you are young and time is on your side.

I was somewhere in my early 30’s. I don’t remember the exact year. I am mid 40’s now and I came up with 2.9 mil at this moment when I factor in everything.

The big thing for me I want to do it cross 1 million in my brokerage account. And that will happen very soon. I’m hoping by end of year. It should be before December unless there’s a major pull
Back in stocks bc I’m right on the doorstep already. But that will be a good night for me and the wife. Whenever that happens I am going to try and plan a really nice night out. I have a long way to go before I start dipping into that obviously, but it will feel good to open my brokerage page and see that second comma.

Congrats, great milestone! Take your family to a real nice dinner. Now, keep it invested properly and expect it to double every ~7 yrs. If you choose to retire at 64 you’ll have ~$16M

There’s a reason people are on this board. The average person would never take the time to educate/improve their finances like the people here.

Also my million is with every penny scraped in and a good day for Nbis. Also got incredibly lucky buying a house during Covid with low interest rate that has appreciated. FWIW

at 40 I was divorced, broke and deeply in debt. I had to take some pretty serious risks to catch up quickly and fortunately while not all of them worked out, some did. Now retired, no debt and a pathway to stay that way at 59. It’s doable especially with the opportunities in the market but it took a great deal of hard work and an even greater deal of courage/determination

Congrats man that’s awesome. Definitely something to be proud of.

Currently almost 32 and hoping to hit that mark by 34. My wife and I had more student loans than most (grad school for me and med school for her) but we have almost knocked them off completely.
