Or who were the fans thinking they were going to get before KDB?

Norvell. It didn't really get past those 2.

Didn't really have time to think about it.

DeBoer was Greg Byrne's first choice. He flew out to Seattle the same day Saban retired. Lanning, Norvell, etc. were never offered. Some of the fans wanted Lanning, some wanted Sark, some wanted DeBoer. The process happened very fast. Byrne meant business and got his guy.

Pretty sure Norvell and Lanning were offered in back-channels. DeBoer wasn’t the first choice. Not that it matters, he may very well end up being the best of the three, but he indeed wasn’t the first choice. It was pretty widely reported outside of Alabama, despite what Tide fans will claim now.

No, they weren't. It's well documented that Byrne immediately flew out to Seattle to meet with DeBoer. Alabama had him hired two days after Saban retired. DeBoer was his first choice.

Whatever. Insiders (and im assuming you too given your defensiveness) know Norvell was offered. None of it matters tho.

Bama will be looking for a new coach like everyone else in less than 5 years, but congrats on getting your “first choice”

You think he needed to get on a plane to offer people the job? I have no clue what the Bama process was, but I can promise you that the AD got on the plane once the deal was done, not to offer DeBoer the job.

Norvell was definitely not contacted , back channels were made to sark, lanning both were not really interested. Deboer was number one on the list , Greg burne had his name written down on a list as top dog because he said saban had told him he was close to retiring and didn't know how much longer he could go . That was after 2022 , he said he was feeling tired and it wasn't as easy as it used to be . Greg compiled a list and Deboer was on the top of it. Norvell was floated as a favor for Jimmy Sexton to leverage FSU into a new contract.
Greg did the same thing when he hired nate oats, he had every body thinking it was thad motta when he had already contacted oats. He said he floats names out to throw the media off so he can zero in on his true candidate.

Whatever makes you feel better. I don’t even know why it makes you feel better, but whatever makes you feel better.

You got your “first choice” at Washington. Congrats.

First choice or fifth choice, it doesn’t matter… we shall see how it works out. Weird thread/context for y’all to be so defensive about that very specific aspect of the process though in who was the first choice, which isn’t what was asked. But just so you know, and since yall brought it up, KD was indeed not the first choice. But for some reason that’s sensitive for y’all ….so weird to me. Especially in the context of a thread about who was Bama after in their search.

The dude was merely asking who were Alabama choices/candidates in that process and the first Bama response in the thread was basically “we had our choice, it was the only offer, and we made it and flew there”….. lol. Believe that if you want, but that isn’t what happened.

We're just setting the record straight about Norvell. Like others said, Sark and Lanning were called but didn't want to further conversation. Deboer did and Byrne was in Seattle within 24 hours. Norvell was never offered.

Sark said he thought about taking the Alabama job but decided to stay. So I believe he was offered. One guy on here said he was friends with pilot that flew byrne and said Deboer was 3rd stop. I believe he said it was norvel sark and Deboer. Not like a 123 deal but just to talk to Byrne in person and geography. Lanning said thanks but no thanks immediately. Sark and norvell were interested but I can't recall if they actually met with Byrne or not. I do remember the guy saying that Byrne never left the tarmac in Austin.

Why do you think that? Fired for not winning NC?

Lanning was not offered but he would have turned it down. The timing and money thing was the reason Bama didnt even bother. By all accounts the AD had Deboer earmarked as his guy from the beginning. Im sure Norvell, and a few others may have gotten calls but no offers

So weird for me that an opposing teams fan thinks he has all the inside information about the inner workings of another university's process in hiring their head football coach. And then calls the fans defensive when they tell him he's wrong.
