wasn't really Saban. He wasn't leaving Bama. Urban Meyer comes to mind.

Tom Herman before TX?

It seems everyone is fawning over Lane Kiffin. Has there been a recent coach that appears to be as coveted as Kiffin?

Dan Lanning turned down Alabama.

He's even smarter than I thought.

That's big shoes to fill for someone who had never been a head coach.

Lane isn’t a hot shot coach. He’s a proven commodity.

He was never offered. DeBoer was Greg Byrne's number 1. He immediately got on a flight to Seattle the same day Saban retired. Lanning may have been #2 if DeBoer turned it down, but he was never offered the job.

Bingo.

Riley was 55-10 at Oklahoma with 4 conference titles and 3 trips to the playoffs in just 5 years. He was hot! That was who I wanted when we hired BK.

Not so productive at USCw. You just never know.

i feel lik less teams were after him than there would have been because he was at a Blueblood school

LSU and USC

Lane has like 7 schools probably giving him a look because Ole Miss is seen as a school you can get hired from more so than OU

First was a courtesy call to Sark to confirm he wasn't interested in being considered, but no offer made. He declined consideration. Lanning would have been first up if DeBoer said no or didn't pan out in the meeting with the AD.

Luke Fickell was all anyone wanted for awhile. To be fair, he did look really good at Cincinnati. Then he took over Wisconsin and fell off a cliff

Kiffin was 28-15 at USC.
Riley is 31-16 at USC.

Kiffin has done well at Ole Miss. Riley was great at Oklahoma. Just maybe the common denominator is you can’t be successful at USC anymore.

What if Riley could have been the next great LSU coach. It’s true- you just never know.

To be fair, Lane faced scholarship reductions and other penalties from Carroll. To your point though, the only guy to have real success there in the last 40 years or so had to cheat like hell.
