Not a chance. Treat others the way you’d want to be treated.

Thousand dollars from some rich arse? Yeah sure.

Hundred bucks from some poor family or kid? shite no.

Probably depends entirely on circumstances.

If I pull up at a mansion with a purebred, and they insist?

It would be rude not to

Absolutely not. I wouldn’t want to go through the feeling of losing my dog and then feel like I’m paying a ransom to get them back and inversely, I’d feel terrible taking that money.

Do good for others without expectation of reward, it’ll make your life much more rewarding.

No!
I hunt with beagles, mostly just watch and listen. I haven't killed any game in years.
But I have lost a beagle, several times. They run off chasing deer or coyote.
Each time, I get a call, and go pick them up.
One guy, ten miles from my home, said, I'm coming to Wall Mart in a few minutes, meet me there.
I offer rewards but no takers.

I hold the dog hostage and taunt the family with pics of their pet having way more fun at my house.

If it's a billionaire's dog, yes.
If it's some average Joe, no.

I wouldn’t, but I’m not going out and looking for a dog. So if it fell into my lap, I would refuse the reward on principle.

If I needed the money such that a reward incentivized me to go out and actively look, then obviously.

Yes, because it's defined in the dictionary as money offered or given for some special service, such as the return of a lost article. Now, I would not accept a penalty, because that's negative.

Lost a lab once. Put a reward, no response. Put another ad and said his name and please give him as good of life if he was still at home.
