Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein

Just saw it. If you liked Nosferatu, you’ll like this. To me, it was insanely slow and boring. Maybe it’s just that we know these stories and seeing them play out in painfully slow detail was agonizing, but I can’t argue that it was well acted and directed. It’s two and a half hours and felt much, much longer.

Woof.
That movie is a massive piece of shite.

Same
It does a great job with atmosphere but that's as far as it goes. On the spectrum of Dracula movies it's slightly above Dracula in a Women's Prison
I was looking forward to this Frankenstein edition and will still watch it albeit with tempered expectations

All they had to do to make Nasferatu good is to make the villain bad arse looking. They failed miserably. He looked like a zombie cowboy.

I saw it last night, and I enjoyed it. It's definitely a del Toro film. I'll add commentary when the spoilers thread starts.

How is it compared to the Branagh movie?

Maybe he was trying to capture the essence of the book.

It did feel like a visual audiobook.

I liked Nosferatu but was too "artsy" for my taste.

I love the Karloff films and Young Frankenstein, but for some reason I've never been able to get into any other Frankenstein film.
I'm in for Dracula and werewolf films, even though I love Bella Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr.'s versions.

It’s no Frankenstein Unbound.

I recently watched Flesh for Frankenstein and Lady Frankenstein. Those were some interesting takes on the story, especially Flesh for Frankenstein.

Difficult to get better than Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in Hammer Horror's first film, Curse of Frankenstein

Just finished it and enjoyed it a ton.

Better, and I like the Branagh movie.

I thought it was pretty good. I’ve never really had an opinion one way or the other on Oscar Isaac, but he was really good as Victor.

Second best movie I’ve seen this year behind Warfare.
Amazing film. Nailed the Frankenstein concept. Amazing on so many levels. Starting with its aesthetic. It is a slow burn, but it is so so good. Amazing acting. Amazing script. It is miles better than nosfuratu imo.
Very close to a masterpiece type of work here.

Saw it last night and enjoyed it. It’s a little slow but very well done. I recommend.
