Donuts are trash. Jalapeño cheese sausage kolache is the right choice! They are even selling them in donut shops in Louisiana

What a cold take. I'll go Take Away Donuts in Boutte, LA.
Jalapeno Cheese Kolache >>> Donut

Southern Made in Shreveport used to be but I’m not sure they are still open??? Tato-nut in Ocean Springs, MS, are legit.
Tastee used to be great but not so much anymore. Shipley’s - depends on the location I guess.

Dino's in Westlake is king.
Either glazed or bougin kolache works for me.
Nelson's in Lake Charles used to be great but I think they burned down.

Southern Maid in the Shreveport/Bossier area put out some little pillows of heaven. When they are warm they melt in your mouth. There was no better Saturday treat than dad going out and getting Southern Maid and chocolate milk.

What a mindblowing comparison. Next you're going to tell us that fettuccine alfredo is better than red velvet cake? Or maybe that french onion soup is better than key lime pie?

The best Tastee donuts location rebranded and it's no longer Tastee. I haven't been since name change to check it out.

There was one in Auburn when I was a student. Surprisingly they had one of the better burgers I've ever had too. They used the same dough to make their burger buns that they would use to make donuts out of.
Up in Cullman, Duchess bakery has amazing donuts., or at least did. They closed down after covid, but i've been told they've re-opened or were bought by someone. Haven't tried them since then to know if they are still the same.
Their donuts have that real good density to them.

Bakers dozen is the best.

For many years, the Shipley in Bunkie had the most donuts in the state. The Shipley in Bunkie was different from the regular chain. The old man that made the donuts was a damn wizard. However, he passed a few years back and they went out of business.
As far as BR goes, Jay's was the best. He was forced out of business and that was the last truly exceptional donut in BR.
Currently, the best I've found is Donut Palace in Gonzales. Their cream cheese filled are very good.
Tato Nut in Ocean Springs also deserves mention.

The answer is Buttercrisp in Covington, and Bakers Dozen in Jefferson.
