Last week the morons running New Orleans thought they were gonna be staring at a $100,000,000 shortfall in 2026.
Now it’s $200,000,000.
I bet by Thanksgiving it will be $400,000,000
There simply is no fixing this city unless every politician is kicked out.
To anyone living in Orleans parish I hope you know where the landfill is because your trash ain’t getting picked up this Fall

LaToya certainly is leaving things better than she found them, isn't she?

How is it possible for them to be this far off on their numbers?

Earlier article indicated:
1. They had rosy revenue projections from Super Bowl and Taylor Swift
2. Budgeted for nearly zero over time
3. New Years attack and January freeze required lots of over time

The 2025 budget included almost nothing — just $57,500 — for overtime.

city did not get a federal emergency or disaster declaration for the late January snowstorm, which brought nearly a foot of snow to the city, meaning that it also did not qualify for reimbursements by FEMA

It now appears that the majority of the deficit, approximately $70 million, is due to personnel costs, particularly overtime pay related to high security needed following the New Year’s Day attack.

The city budgeted just more than $57,000 for overtime in 2025, spent $40 million as of Sept. 29.

What part of the "morons running New Orleans" did you not understand?

Have you seen the people running that place? Half of them have done time.

because no one wants to see/know what is going on.
The city still has money from Katrina that they have not spent. After 20 years they still have not figured out how to steal it....or much of it.
put a Circus tent over that city.

They need a DOGE czar to expose what the money IS being spent on. Before people start crying about cutting programs, you need to understand what that program is using the money for specifically.

This feels like some racist math.

As an outsider, I for one am shocked at this development when every single story to come from NO is negative, with corrupt politicians leading the city
Can’t believe the city is run into the ground

This is a pretty big problem. Every department has quite a few people working that are actually retired, collecting a pension, and getting double paid.
And that’s nothing compared to the mostly useless people that retired at like 50 and have been collecting the average of their last 5 years of pay for the last 20 or 30 years.

quote:Honestly this is main reason for this mess. The pensions of former city employees and all the overtime worked by NOPD and the Sheriff’s office

New criminals are replacing the old criminals. Old criminals are grabbing as much as possible on their way out.
A DOGE type audit would be the only way to try to get it under control, but unlike DOGE there needs to be accountability and consequences.

Don’t you worry this time around they will fix it!
They’re about to giving parking tickets for random laws.
