It’s obvious to anyone watching that our O-line is soft as hell and it’s clear in the stats too.

I’m sure they aren’t being told to be soft, so someone who knows line play, what is the issue?

I’m trying to figure out specifics on what is wrong with the coaching? Is it as simple as the coaches aren’t tough enough on the players?

Starting from a 2 point stance, hands on your knees, 1st step on snap is backwards.

3 things I've seen discussed.

Pad level - Chester getting put on his back is an extreme example

Hand fighting - Todd McClure talked about Davis allowing defenders into his body

Picking up stunts. G and OT, not passing off rushers

Joe Sloan runs a billion RPOs which does not allow the OL to actually fire off the football and move downfield. This accumulates and leads to this bizarre “catching” technique we are seeing. Just garbage all around.

It's not about technique. It's toughness and grit . We have not recruited tough mean lineman. The team is taken the personality of the HC .

This makes some sense. The linemen are hesitant because they don’t know if they are pass or run blocking

Pad level is part of the problem. We are consistently too high.

We also don't seem to recognize switches.

We look to be too weak. We get overpowered too many times.

I think it's a combination of ineffective technique and a bad scheme. If you run zone RPO or RO with a slow mesh handoff, but rarely make the LBs defend the pass over the middle or the edge guys respect the QB keep, it allows the LBs to remain free to stop the run, and allows the DL/DEs to tee off and get aggressive!

If the line is not firing off by design because the RPO is in play, but Nuss only throws a ball behind the LBs once or twice a game, the LBs are in THEIR comfort zone of downhill tackling or sprinting to pursue instead of worrying about defending an intermediate pass route behind them.

Against Vandy, the offense finally started to move the ball somewhat effectively AFTER Nuss throws a ball behind the LBs to Anderson. It backs off the LBs for a little while. I don't know if we throw another pass to a speed guy behind the LBs the rest of the game though. Maybe one or two to Green over the middle after the throw to Anderson. Most of the passes are quick screen style passes to the outside at the line of scrimmage or check downs due to pressure.

Nuss rarely runs, so when LSU meshes on the handoff it only slows down the exchange, so often times the outside zones are killed by penetration and LBs as I've said are playing downhill on inside runs.

Pass protection breakdown on obvious passing downs just seems like bad footwork and confusion against stunts. It has a lot to do with injuries. Guys are being asked to play out of position, and we already had a lack of experience at tackle. Of course injuries would indicate a step down in talent as well. So a step down in talent and lack of experience against quality SEC pass rushers while trying to learn the pass protection and the footwork required to execute is a recipe for disaster.

They’re soft and they obviously are not being coached at all. Watching them try to pick up stunts against La Tech told me we were in trouble when we got to the real games. Turned out to be accurate.

Its not just the OL - we don’t have a TE or RB who can help the LT on a bull rush. He’s just left out there alone to get run over. We have no Josh Williams on this team who can lay a blitzing LB on his back side.

Agree with the above. Lineman are standing straight up. Poor footwork. Not using their hands to fight off defenders trying to get into their body and shove them straight down.

Yet Vandy was allowed to be 5 yards down the field multiple times without it being called. Was more infuriating to me Saturday than the lack of holding calls on their runs outside the tackles.

no no no

that is a crock of shite

the lineman ALWAYS assume the play is a RUN in a RPO

they can go 3 yards downfield.

this is why the read has to be fast by the Qb whether to handoff or throw.

Cracking hit this times 1000. The scheme is “fine” IF you keep the LBs honest. We don’t. This we created a worst case scenario—LBs run downhill at the ball carrier all game into an O line playing a “catch “ technique without any fear with a QB who won’t / can’t exploit it. Throw in the bizarre WR screens which don’t mesh with the overall scheme and you have an offense that is like a mid 40s bi polar woman off her meds.

I read somewhere that Kelly’s Oline is set up to pass block. They don’t teach them to run Block.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner!

Nuss refuses to throw over the middle for whatever reason. Yall know why Kyle Parker housed a 70 yard slant route? Because LBs crept up and Kyle was wide open instead of being in cover.

Yall act gonna like this, but from the guy who reviews game film with All 22 views, a LOT of our problems are Nuss.

Per someone on here who knew someone, the OL does not practice run blocking with contact.

They don't understand their assignments in Kelly's zone blocking scheme and are hesitant. They either miss their assignments all together or get blown up because they are on their heels. That's on Sloan and Davis.
