How often do you sit and watch the world go by?

Near my house there is a bench under a live oak. On Saturday mornings when there isn’t anything pressing I will leave my phone behind and walk there and sit on the bench and watch cars pass by and look at who is driving the cars and wonder who they are and what they are doing with their day. And I will look at their cars and trucks and suv’s and think about them too.
You?
You?

I try to almost every day. In a world that tries to focus our attention on meaningless nonsense through all manner of distractions, I need that time to center myself and say hello to God

I don’t necessarily watch the world go by, but I often leave my phone in the house, turn on the back patio radio and sit in the yard and stargaze. There’s something so calming and relaxing about looking up and knowing how vast it all is.

I don't much now, but I envision after I retire having time to just relax, drink coffee and watch the world from afar.
And be glad I'm afar.
And be glad I'm afar.

I suggest you bring a notebook and practice writing while doing this on Saturdays.

True. It helps put in perspective how small and insignificant your personal problems are in the grand scheme of things.

Does sitting alone at Walk-On’s bar people watching and contemplating life every Thursday count?

That was my grandmother's favorite pastime. She called it "people watching". She worked at community college well into her 70s, and I'm convinced that hobby was 90% of the reason she kept working. She'd make up stories for the random people she saw.

Probably about 20 days a month whether at home just sitting on the porches.
Back porch I have a bird's eye view of my big vegetable garden with birds coming flying in and out pecking at things between the rows. Lots of butterflies and dragon flies doing their thing.
Front porch is more for people watching. There's a bar down the block that is pretty popular and draws a lot of folks for Happy Hour and on weekends for the college and pro games on TV.
A few times a month I'll head to a local watering hole that has several dart league teams and watch them play if I don't jump in and get in a few pickup games before league starts. Sometimes it amazes me how quickly some people can get sloshed when the shots and chasers are flowing.

If I’m on a business trip for more than 1 night, I’m the guy sitting alone at the bar without my phone trying to make eye contact with you for a little conversation. What can I say, I get lonely. And talking to strangers is good for you.
Yall get off yall phone

“You are a ghost, driving a meat-coated skeleton, made from stardust, riding a rock which is floating through space.”
Leisurely drinking coffee and people-watching on my front porch is one of my favorite weekday morning treats… lots of activity with people/dogs walking. It typically turns into sappy overwhelming gratitude for the little things.

I agree. Been doing this for a few months now. I go play 9 holes of golf alone then come to Walk-Ons nurse a beer or two eat then go home. Sometimes I have conversations with people sometimes I don’t but I do agree that talking to complete strangers makes for a good evening. Especially if they’re a talker and or interesting
