I don't blame a dad for trying to bring his son along, but sorry Hunter you are not cut out for it.

All the douche stuff that you're used to when Guy does it seems much douchier when it's his kid doing it.

ddd is a good resource to find lunch spots to try when traveling.

A ton of those establishments have closed down.

I don't like DDD only because he never has anything negative to say. He likes everything he tries, no constructive criticism. He says, "Great job" to every person on the show. It's hard to take his recs seriously as a result.

I’ve heard him say in interviews that they don’t air the negative things. He’ll try a dish on DDD and tell the chef it’s not great and they’ll ahoot another recipe. Or so he says.

Yes, but if you watch it enough, you can tell if he doesn't really like something.

224 of the 1,498 restaurants featured on DDD have closed so far
224 of the 1,498 (and counting) Triple D restaurants have closed, which comes out to just shy of 15%. In the grand scheme of things, that's actually not so bad, considering that one in three restaurants don't survive their first year.

I actually really like Guy and DDD. I'm surprised the numbers are that low. My wife and I have written locations down so when we're near those cities we could check them out. It seems like more than 15% of them when we planned our trips were kaput.

It's rare, but it has happened before. There was an episode where he was at a small authentic Mexican place, and they had him eat Menudo. He almost refused, but did eventually eat it. He absolutely did not like it, and made it clear. It was actually pretty funny to watch.

He’s been making the rounds on podcasts this year and I’ve really got to know a different side of him and he’s very likable
He was on Rogan, and Bussin with the boys. They were ragging him about how they know when he doesn’t like a dish.
Seems like a genuine dude that just is himself and does a lot for charity.
Btw 15% have closed down is very good for that space, especially after COVID. Most places get a nice bump after they are on the show.

Yep. When we're going on vacation we usually watch an episode of Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix when he visited the city/country we're going to. Food for fine dining and lunch recs. Did it a few times for DDD as well.
Food competition shows is usually our background tv watching and I agree with the OP, Hunter drags the show down. Haven't really watched it since he put him on GGG.

DDD is a great show. Not sure why people hate the guy.

Guy Fieri is essentially the only reason food network is still going.
Dude shows are always entertaining, he just knows how to make interesting food shows.
His tournament of champions is always fun to watch IMO as well.
But yes Hunter has a lot of work to do in order to eventually take the empire over his father has built, he simply isn't as effortlessly charismatic as Guy.

And Bobby Flay. That station is pretty much just those two guys numerous shows playing on a loop.
Bobby Flays barbeque competition show is pretty good. Not as good as the Netflix BBQ competition though, that is one of the best cooking competition shows I've ever watched. Some seriously good cooks on there.

The Great British Baking Show is our biggest guilty pleasure though. I freaking love that show
I like that it's just really good home bakers, not professionals.
Though they are really making it a point to make half the cast gay at this point. Didn't use to be that way. But that is British TV/Netflix for you though.
Netflix also has a new one we watched called NextGen Chef. It's held at the CIA (culinary institute of America). Takes some top young chefs and it's for 500K. I had never heard of the cooking CIA, that place is absolutely insane. It looks like it's the size of LSU's campus.

For some reason he gets under my skin. He looks goofy as shite. He is my age upper 50's and still has that stupid hair and sunglasses look. Oh and his restaurant in Branson sucks.

I think you're missing the point.
What restaurant is going to agree to be on the show and get dragged? The whole point is to advertise for the place. He's not there to give them pointers, he's there to celebrate what they're doing. This isn't "Kitchen Nightmares."
