It's the equivalent of investing in a company that already received a massive chunk of cash earlier this year but still needs more, has a steadily declining stock price and has an upcoming catalyst that could wipe out your investment if it goes the wrong way.

The risk is off the charts but lets throw money at them.

The kicker is that for some reason Milei is seen as being aligned with Trump when their economic strategies are the opposite. Milei is about as free market libertarian as a head of state can be and shits on protectionism.

Homo Soros junior Bessent was such a garbage choice for Treasury Secretary.

don't understand much of anything about the details of the other part of your screed - but if this is your opinion of Bessent then I'm not interested in any of your other faults.

Bessent isn’t doing any of this without Trump ordering him.

He's an angry gay who was a Soros protegee and still intertwined with him until relatively recently. And he is the Treasury Secretary.

In April, the IMF floated out a loan to Argentina for 20 billion with 12 billion immediately disbursed with the rest being disbursed over the next year or two. Milei's reforms have begun to stall although the rate of inflation growth has come down. However, Milei's party did not fare so well in the first round of mid terms and depending on who you listen to is about to take a bath in the next round in a few weeks.

But apparently the initial IMF infusion was not enough and Bessent did a 20 billion currency swap. But while Bessent did that, Xi came in and inked a deal with the Argentine and Brazil on the soybeans.

Milei gets bailed out by everybody. Xi gets his soybeans to punish Trump for the tariff games. The US gets the responsibility for underwriting Argentine debt while hoping the Argentine peso does not all of a sudden tank, meanwhile Trump throws out a bailout to soybean farmers that got hosed during a period of already falling grain prices.

It's not a win for the US. Argentina objectively is something of a liability for us. They are proven deadbeats who just went and undercut US farmers

I wouldn't doubt it's to get an airbase there so the war on the cartels is easier to undertake. Also think if can get a similar looking govt and country to the US it could lead to changing south America completely.

Who knows the real reasons

His party will get hammered in this next round of elections. The Argentinian’s feel like they are becoming the 51st state of the US. Which they do not want, their media is much like ours in painting Milei as a dictator.

The country will shift back towards socialism soon. Much like Columbia is doing right now as well.

It would not be about getting a base in S. America for fighting cartels.....you might as well fly bombers and fighters from Texas, it's a shorter distance from Argentina.

Overall from a strategic standpoint it really does not offer much. It's a destination unto itself. It's not on any big trade route. We'd be better off making deals with Brazil. More people with more to offer.....still not all that strategic in terms of location. Both have oil, both can feed themselves, both have lots of raw materials.

Really, if they ever got their act together, they are a potential powerhouse.

Do you understand ANYTHING about geo politics and spheres of influence?!?! If not, you need some schooling.

We are propping up an important ally in its time of need. It's very simple, really, so pay attention: if we leave a void and don't support our allies, especially in the Americas, someone else will (as in Russia, China, India, etc.) Look at what happened in Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba.

Now go do some reading and research.

All this bailout behavior would be fine if we never stood a chance of another democrat president.

Once we get another one of those - bar the door on the losers they’re going to bailout. Heck, that arguably the entire democrat platform- bailout the losers

Yeah it could start a domino effect.

It's an extremely risky investment but hey, what's another $20 billion.

We need allies in SA to keep China out.

Speaking of, if we don't bail them out guess who was going to?

Now they have Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina and we have lost control of half the Monroe Doctrine continents.

Almost 4800 adjectives in the English language.

Americans in 2025 can only apparently use (2): ‘crazy’ or ‘insane’

China throwing money into the Argentine money pit would be bad how?

With any investment you have to ask what's the risk/return. What's the potential return on our investment vs the the money disappearing into Argentine debt or the peso continuing to crash or Milei losing significant power in the mid-terms?

You guys sound like neocons that dream about ideals divorced from reality.
