Has anyone ever actually explained what the “fit” is here that Kelly seems to miss?

I keep reading various places including people on this site saying that Brian Kelly isn’t a “fit” here. But they never actually explain what it is.
I’m not a fan of his by any stretch of the imagination. But I’d just like to know what it is he’s missing that makes him not “fit” here.

I think it just comes down to him being a gruff a-hole who isn’t winning the games LSU needs to win. No more. No less.
If he has a couple of CFP appearances by now I don’t think you see any of this “fit” talk. Lord knows Saban didn’t fit in here

It’s just a lazy “reason” for explaining that they don’t like him/support him as a coach.

He don’t speak like one of us, don’t know what da Rougarou be, don’t understand what da voodoo is, can’t make da good gumbo, and is missing da secret playbook.

People just love to hate

He’s not a very likeable guy and hasn’t won anything. With that combination most guys aren’t going to be a “fit” at any school that has expectations like LSU.

Because he isn’t southern and doesn’t have a very likable persona. There are people that will never like him as our HC for those reasons only. However, if he was winning more, the media wouldn’t say anything about “fit”
There is something to be said about coaches fit into a school, but it means very little. Imagine Mike gundy at Stanford or Cal.

He hasn’t “fit” this team close enough to sniff a playoff

I could be way off but I think people do not like Kelly not addressing the elephant in the room. This year it is our offense, last year it was defending running quarterbacks, 2023 it was the entire defense.
It started in 2023 with the defense. It has lead to me being annoyed by just about any “coach speak” after a game.

Pretty much this.
He seems relatively genuine in press conferences and tries to explain things from his side like it or not. Tries to make little jokes. Seems fine to me. Just not winning at an elite level here yet

It means they have a chip on their shoulder about anyone who hails from north of the Mason-Dixon Line.
As a transplant from the Deep South living in the Northeast, believe me when I tell you this bias works the other way, too.
But, at some point, one has to let go of such weakness and get comfortable with the skin they’re in.
I don’t see Kelly as some sort of cultural interloper; he’s a HOF college coach no matter how you slice it - which is a pretty good thing for LSU.
Doesn’t mean he’s built an O-line that is anywhere near ready for prime time or that he has this team capable of ‘complimentary’ football - yet.
As one of my favorite folk likes to say, we shall see…

When you give a coach a 10 year contract, anybody will be a fit

A winner. The rest of the bullshite you're hearing is nonesense.
Dinardo, Saban nor Miles were "one of us". O was.
All were loved when they won. It's that simple.

I think media relations is his least favorite part of the job. His fan interaction isn’t as bad. I there are quite a few people in my own interactions who didn’t like him immediately because he doesn’t fit Louisiana culture. Or at least their perception of it.

Has nothing to do with fit
The model kind of completely changed just as we hired Kelly.
LSU had a fundamental misunderstanding of what NIL was actually going to be. They seemed to think it was going to be business as usual, with players just able to monetize themselves not essentially pay for play. So we still heavily invested in coaching and figured the talent would continue to take care of itself.
Kelly is somewhat adapting but the rule with an iron fist types will struggle with the players holding most of the cards now, tougher to hold kids accountable when they’re getting paid nicely and can just leave if they feel slighted in the least

If we go back to past coaches, we have had plenty that were not from the South. Miles, Saban and Dietzel all won NC's and were not southern.
I think this is just a lazy narrative from the national press.

Loses a lot of “big” games…

I always thought the "fit" thing was stupid, but as he gets further into his tenure I start to believe in the validity of it more.
The thing I take away from his press conferences are a complete misalignment with how involved the community and fans are in the process of the program. Whether we should be or not, we are not afraid to blast him on forums, publicly, etc. Our reporters are a reflection of that and I don't think he is used to it to the same degree. I think when he flew off the handle he didn't expect the push back so quickly from the reporter. It seemed like he thought he could "what a tough win" his way out of the fact that we couldn't run the ball or get a first down when it mattered.
I also think he thinks we give a shite about the academic aspect of what the players are doing. I gather that he feels like there are other aspects of the program that he can fall back on, when at the end of the day we just want to win. LSU will never be a top SEC school. That has gone to the wayside, and if it is a top SEC school, the football players by and large are not the contributors to that. I've never once wondered if Chris Hilton jr. is going to class. There's nothing other than winning, and winning in a way that gives us confidence about the next game.
This one is truly based on nothing but a gut feeling, but I think he feels like we are retarded. And I think that might be something coming from ND, where the alumni were probably smarter overall than the populace of Louisiana, but his mischaracterization not withstanding, I'd bet that we know football a bit more than most people in South Bend. And I think that pisses him off. He lies to our faces and expects us to eat it, and when we come back with reasonable questions such as "Why are we still only scoring 20 points despite the offense looking way better?" it pisses him off.
Again, this is all based on never meeting the guy, and just seeing him talk publicly so take it for what it's worth.

I for one think BK has regretted coming to LSU the second he got off the plane. He took the money.
He’s aged a ton in the last four years
