Is staring at a campfire not one of the most amazing things?

I have done it for hours, it's just mesmerizing, at a campsite, and lost in your thoughts.

Its like your plugging directly into the socket of nature to recharge.

I love starting fires around my place. During the winter, I heat my house with a wood burning stove. I have several burning areas on my land and I have a smokeless fire pit.
I can't wait until it cools down. I have 4 red oak trees split and ready to be turned into ashes.

I will admit to watching a campfire to excess.

That blue flame is a wonderful thing

Yep, always the highlight of the camping trip with my boys. Gotta have the fire to make smores. And once all that gooey marshmallow mess is done, pouring a bourbon or opening a beer and sitting by the fire is great.

Yes. There is something primal about it.

When its cold, with a whiskey neat and a fresh Marlboro light……nothing better!

It is.
Also, spending a final few minutes alone in quiet repose staring at the glowing embers of a fire that died down, just before retiring to a tent for the night, is special moment.

I had a guy tell me once that a campfire is, "the world's first entertainment center".

The little things in life are the most enjoyable....not flashy material things that we get caught up in.
-Cooking on patio during nice fall afternoon
-Christmas decorations
-Early morning coffee
-Sitting in deer stand

Have you ever stared at a campfire....on beer?

My theory is we are incredibly conditioned to do this, as we have spent thousands of years around a fire for warmth before modern conveniences.
Historically speaking, man may have spent more time staring at a fire than any other activity.

It really is.
Tip for anyone who struggles to light a campfire: carry a cut-off power cord with you. Most new trucks have an inverter and 120VAC plug you can plug it into. Then, just sort of hold the exposed conductors onto a log and, presto... a roaring fire! People don't realize how easy it is to start a fire this way, but when I lived out in California all of the professional guides and dude ranch foremen used this trick.
