Can you tell a difference in the balls you're playing?

I've been playing Srixon Q star tour balls for a while now and have liked them. However, the last 2 rounds I've played when I lost a Srixon I tried playing a ProV1 that I had in my bag. Both times I noticed a significant difference in how straight my ball flies.
I've never really tried the ProV1 because I'm a high handicapper and it's not worth paying that much for balls I'm going to lose. But now I'm rethinking that because even when I mis hit the ball with the ProV1, it always stayed in play.
It was enough of a difference that even my wife noticed and told me to start buying whatever ball it was I was playing.
To test my theory, I pulled out another Srixon and within 2 or 3 holes it was lost and sliced into oblivion. Went back to the ProV1 and was able to finish my round with it.
Have any of you guys ever seen a distinct difference like this?

There’s very notable differences in pretty much every ball if you strike it consistently and play enough to feel it. What you experienced is a placebo though. ProVs can slice just like the rest of them

Probably you swinging more carefully because you don’t want to lose your expensive ball.
Quality of ball matters, but none of them (except the illegal go-straight balls) have anything to stop them from slicing

But yes, I can definitely tell. I depend upon high spin for my short game(working on changing that) and do not excessively spin the ball with driver. So, premium balls marketed for low spin do not work as well for me. Two piece balls are an absolute disaster for me.

Here's Mygolfspy's latest ball test

If you believe the golf ball doesn’t matter or that you’re not good enough to buy a good golf ball, you might wanna listen up.
Not only did they NOT land in a bucket, what we saw made all our jaws drop.
We saw golf balls from some of the biggest names in the business and some of the most popular golf balls played in the world fly 40-yards offline.
Yeah, you heard that right. A ball that should’ve flown straight started off that way and then flew 40-yards to the left. And this wasn’t a one time thing. We saw multiple brands fly 20-yards right or 40-yards left.

It was robot testing so who knows.

Happen to know your swing speed? Swing speed is pretty important for whether or not a Q Star is a good ball for you. Ball is going to be better for a slower swing speed.
I switched my full time ball from a ProV to a Srixon Z Star this year and love it. Srixon makes a great golf ball.

I can tell more from the amount of spin.
60 with a Bridgestone or Srixion hop and stop. Callaway backs up a bit, prov1 backs up more
Only balls I play.

Where can I get illegal go straight balls?

I can feel differences easy
But in terms of it actually effecting my score, it doesn’t seem to

Found the new Maxfli I believe Griffin played and won with. Good feeling ball

It's definitely a nice ball. Played them for a little while after I was switching from ProV's.
My only complaint was that they weren't very durable. Play a few holes with one ball and it would start to show some pretty good wear on it.

I spend way too much time looking at the data from the robot test - it is very interesting how each ball with each club at each swing speed behaves.
The thing that I kinda value the most at this point is production quality and consistency. I can't remember where I read it, but they basically cut open a bunch of balls and found some fairly significant differences in consistency and weight distribution from a fair amount of balls in the same pack.
There is a reason why ProV1 is what everything else is measured against. Not saying its going to help me shoot 80 instead of 92, but i've been prone to slices and the lower spin rate of certain balls off the driver should no doubt help control that - if it turns what would have been a 50 yard off-line sliced lost ball into a 25 yard off line edge of the woods shot - that'd be helpful.

In my experience softer golf balls definitely have more forgiveness and spin on the irons and short game. Probably not as much roll on your drives though. I'd rather the short game and iron forgiveness.

Kirkland Performance 3+
Great performance, durability, and can’t beat the price.
I still have some of the “Magic” original 4 piece Kirkland balls.
The new generation ranked as high or higher than the ProV

Absolutely. It's why I play the balls I play.
I can keep an AVX and a Chrome Soft in play for multiple rounds. I'll try something different and it's gone after two or three holes.

Yes!
I tend to play “upper tier” models: TP5, BRX, Maxfli Tour, and ProV.
The difference to me is the “X” models are more clicky (firm). The none X versions tend to be more soft. For me, it’s not as much of a factor with driver, more so with wedges and putter.
I love the performance of the Maxfli Tour X. I love the feel of the regular Maxfli Tour. I opted for the Tour X as it has more spin and distance.
BTW, the Maxfli Tour X was rated as the best ball choice for swing speeds of ~102 mph, that’s me. AND you can’t beat the price/performance ratio.
