Councilman Darryl Hurst is spearheading an initiative aimed at revitalizing the Plank Road corridor in Baton Rouge.
Revive Plank Road aims to develop the North Baton Rouge area into an “economic mecca,” according to Hurst, who represents District 5. The first target in the plan is the Delmont Economic Development District to leverage sales and use taxes for improvements in facades, signage, lighting, and landscape from Plank Road at Evangeline Street to Plank Road and Airline Highway.
“This economic development district will be a public investment in the most crime-ridden and underserved zip code in Baton Rouge, which is 70805. This investment will bring economic resources, provide job creation, increase property values, will catalyze private investment, and visually transform this area to a place where both South Baton Rouge and North Baton Rouge will patronize,” a release from Hurst said.

Why would this upset me? I want north Baton Rouge to be developed and not be a crime ridden, unsafe area. I want BR to thrive.
Now, will it be executed properly? Doubt it, but I want NBR to be a good area again.

You can polish a turd, but it’s still a turd

Absolutely excited for this.
Finally a reason to have to go to north Baton Rouge.
One of the most vibrant and culture filled areas of BR

So a grift that will achieve nothing but making the pols and their friends wealthier. Yay.

Are they going to deport all of those criminals to somewhere that can better appreciate them, like CA?

All a grift and a complete waste of money.
Call me when they change their culture.

Yep, that’s the only thing holding back Plank Road from becoming the new Mecca of North Baton Rouge.
Wealthy white people will be lining up to enjoy the new facade, signage, lighting and landscaping in no time.
They think we can’t notice lipstick on a pig?

He’s got to find a way to line his friends pockets and get his kickbacks.
I’d love to know the number of “studies” BR has had with nothing actually happening

And it will still be home to the very people who make it one of the most crime ridden zip codes in BR. What will you do with them, Darryl? Do you believe they will magically transform into law abiding citizens with good intentions? All rushing out to find gainful, legitimate employment and abandoning their criminal activities? You can renovate all the buildings and open new stores and you’ll still
Have the same element that turned it into a flaming hemorrhoid on the anus that is BR.
Obvious money grift is obvious. It’s as if he truly believes his constituents aren’t responsible for the conditions in which they live.

Baton Rouge is not a real city.

I'm surprised Tony's Seafood and Krispy Kreme haven't left North BR.

I'm sure this has been tried before.
New Orleans has been trying to do this in NOLA East for decades.
