After going 0-3 for TDs in the red zone, the Saints are now ranked 29th in the league in Red Zone Scoring Percentage (TD only). We are converting red zone opportunities into TDs only 41.18% of the time. For comparison, Chicago and New England are right in the middle of the pack and are converting 63% of the time.

IMO, it doesn't matter how good Rattler looks week to week when he continues to struggle in the red zone. We can't keep trading TDs for FGs.

Hopefully they can start to incorporate Velle more in the red zone as he gets more healthy and comfortable

The RZ play calling has all the markings of either:

1. Coach doesnt trust his QB to throw in traffic and risk a turnover

2. QB is scared or incapable of finding opem receivers up the seams

Either way, every pass ends up being a 3 yard check down

It's as if none of you recognized this was going to be a bad team this season. Where the hell have yall been? Of course RZO is bad; this is a bad team. Instead of bitching about it, why don't you try watching a rebuilding team the way it ought to be watched, which is to see which players are showing improvement each weak and discovering position weaknesses on all sides of the ball.

I'm just stunned at how every week this board is riddled with people feigning shock at this team being bad.

QB quality is really shown in red zone play. It’s that simple.

Our offense really isn't very good in general but especially scoring wise.

We don't drive the ball downfield with regularity and can't punch it in

Maybe it means something, maybe it means nothing, but...

Red zone D (td only)...
Arizona #5
Seattle #7
SF #10
NYG #11
Buffalo #17

Could be bc they faced us, but our opponents seem to be good RZ defenses

Crazy part about the stat is before going 0-3 against NYG, they were 22nd at 50% (according to FoxSports).
A surprising stat is they are currently tied for 10th with 17 red zone opportunities. Was surprised to see them as an above average team in at least getting to the redzone.

Mickey shored up the RZ offense by giving cooks and Juwan $43 mil combined and trading a 4th for Vele

The large number of trips to the red zone let you know that Moore's scheme is working, even with Rattler missing some of the deeper throws. Everything becomes so much tighter in the Red Zone and Rattler has shown to have the same struggles that Carr had down there. Particularly, his throw out of bounds when Johnson had inside position on 3rd down was bad. Good QBs make that throw and give your guy a chance.

agree but i think it is just frustration because most posters know the rebuild shoulda started in 2021 and it did not.

all you can do is laugh at this year. I expect nothing but shite stats across the board.

It was obvious with Carr also. He could go 20 to 20 just fine. He was awful in the redzone also.

That is where good to great QB's become just that especially with how defenses play now. Once you get in the red zone defenses have the advantage with a smaller field to work with. Carr had the same issues as Ratt does and it beyond old.

Yeah spot on about Carr.

There were plenty of times when I was hoping that they would put taysom in once we got to the Red zone.

I don't know if it was as bad as it is right now, but it was still obviously an area of weakness. I'm just glad we won though I realized that it won't be like that every week where if you get down there in the Red zone and keep having to settle for field goals that things are going to work out because they won't

But this is a rebuilding year so anytime you can get a win in a rebuilding year. It's a good day

I'm glad they are showing fight and competing, but 5 TO's should lead to more than 1 offensive TD.

1 was right before the half, and 1 was a defensive td. Really 1 td on 3 TOs imo

Last year Rattler had multiple fades in the endzone that he connected on. Either the coach has a leash or Rattler forgot how to throw the football. I don't know but there's definitely something going on.

The play calling is atrocious in the redzone. How hard is it to throw a play action to the TE in the endzone?

Care to give us evidence of this? I mean, I could easily just say, it’s the QB, not the play calling. But I believe it’s a little of both.
